Can you get usage states on user activity?  Most prospects on our platform only actually use it for 1-2 hours before they make up their mind. This being the case we reduced our trial from 30 days to 7 days and conversions went UP.

Its rare that people need 30 days to make up their mind.

Thats really interesting! I suppose that when you have 7 days, you don't sign up until you're ready to test?

I run into the problem al the time - "I signed up and now I only have 7 days. Can I get an extension".

Press your prospect for what makes the trial a "success." They should be able to give you 1-5 things that your solution NEEDS to do. If you focus on those, the trial should be done much sooner than 15 days and you'll have ground to stand on to push a next commitment.

Never start a trial solely because they want to "kick the tires," "see how it feels," "break the software," etc. It's your job as the seller to ensure your solution accomplishes SPECIFIC business goals.

I always use free trials as a validation to sign. If you do this trial and it works I’m going to need you to sign on the last day. Otherwise it’s a complete waste of your time. Make sure you have a mutual agreement on the terms before the free trial starts.

They are necessary in freemium business models, but not every business need them. Once you are well positioned they can be replaced by a demo.

I hate trials, in my mind the value should be shown clearly without a trial and at most you can offer a technical validation that it works for them pre-signing. Otherwise you open yourself up to unnecessary risk

@lore - given the state of lowering attention span, should be 7 days.
