Urgent advice! Should I take a 100% commish job selling advertising or take a sub teaching job for $500/week?

been unemployed for 10 months now, longest time ever. kids are back to school, thinking it's time to get out of the house and try something new (teaching k-4) for $110 a day. I have some experience with this but I have 12 years in sales. worked in advertising and Fintech. struggling with where I should be money wise. what would you do?

Definitely do both. Shape young minds with guaranteed income and make some money selling as well

This is the answer. Any 100% commission job that doesn’t have an expense account or for a company that you own, is a part of a whole.

Guaranteed capital as a parent is crucial. Get the salary role and hunt for an ideal role later.

School ends at 3:45 then I have to watch my two little ones so I’d say no. If I was single I could manage it.

I would take the teaching job tbh. But I'm quite risk-averse so...

Well what if you do both? I know subbing jobs aren't permanent.

I agree with the both option if you can float the time.

I am assuming you will be on some sort of plan/draw for the first 6 months until you ramp up sales? %100 commission can be nice. If you’re on a draw of some kind it can help even out your pay as well.

I say take the sales job

Take the substitute job for now and keep looking for a sales role.

I like both, sales and the money/competitiveness with it. But teaching gives me purpose and helps my soul. I’m honestly torn here

I would never take a 100% commission role, but that's just me. Too many variables where things can go wrong.

Try to craft yourself a retainer + commissions role, Any reasonable sales mgmt would understand the value of where you can make the difference, people pay for business development activities as a retainer, everyone wants a good full cycle sales person. What sectors have you sold ? And how are you approaching the search ?

If I was you... hit up HVAC / Plumbing companies for sales roles. They're always looking, accessible products and relatively good pay. Good luck!

NO. I wouldn't suggest 100% commish job in this economy. If I were to ask you to go without any basic pay, how would you plan your finances and even get into bigger commitments like maybe paying rent and medical and yada yada.

Not in this economy. Maybe it's just me, but yeah.

Go with what you love to do! You could be making $100,000 in a job and still be miserable.
