The title is pretty self-explanatory, but a bit more detail:
- Laid off twice in 2023
- Took a job as an AE at a consulting firm, selling services to sales and operations leaders. Needed a paycheck and I wanted to transition into consulting eventually.
- I took this job because I was a former customer, and I trusted the person I THOUGHT was my manager.
- On day 1 I found out that I would be reporting to the newly promoted sales lead, who was previously the only rep on the team, and therefore the "top rep at the company".
- Oh, and within 3 weeks I found out we are having cash flow issues despite being told they were in a solid position during the interviews.
Turns out that this person does not know how to manage. They spend the entirety of our 1:1s doing deal reviews (which we do during our daily standups AND our weekly forecasting call). When I give feedback that I'd like to spend part of it on coaching I am told that I can ask other people on the team for that...but no one else on the team is getting coached either.
The absolute worst part of all is that he really thinks he is a sales visionary. He like to use the phrase "time kills deals" and "we have to hear no multiple times before we believe it". He treats me like I am a brand new rep with no experience, and when I teach him or others something that he didn't know he gets high and mighty that "this isn't the forum for a sales lesson".
Bottom line: how the fuck should I deal with the transition from leader to sheep when my new Sheppard is a fucking dodo brain?
