Welp, update, I got laid off!

So all this talk about quitting or trying to get fired and I got laid off yesterday! (for me this is good news)

After getting written up a couple times, at my 30 day review I sat with the CEO and he told me how happy they are with me and my performance and then proceeds to tell me that they are laying me off along with a few other employees because the company has no money and won't make it to June unless they do layoffs. I was shocked at the timing, but inside I was super happy, this means I get to go on employment insurance while I build up my customer base and start making money at my new job which is commission only. Layoffs where I live are a temporary measure companies do when they don't have work/money to keep employees on, so they have 13 weeks to bring me back in otherwise this counts as termination of my job and I get severance and all my built up vacation pay. So I hope I can run out the clock on this! Not sure what I would do if they call me back in...

The only thing that pisses me off is that the VP who was my direct report didn't even have the decency to show her face to me, when I went to the CEO's office she went in her's, closed the door and didn't come out until after I was gone. She told some other employees it's because she feels too bad about it and didn't want to make a scene, but if you know her, she LOVES drama and making a scene.

All in all I feel pretty good about things. I did a good job for them while I was there and I'm proud of what I was able to accomplish. I showed them ways that we could be more efficient but they wanted to treat it like a party during the good times and spend every penny as it came in and now they're putting up with the consequences.

Have a great day savages! Time to make the donuts

How is the commission only role going? Is it meeting your expectations?

Glad you were able to see the silver lining with the bad news!

I'm still just finishing training and getting set up with the different programs I'll use. So far the people I'm working with are awesome, the guy I directly report to is a breath of fresh air, super nice and friendly, and wants to do everything he can to make sure I'm a success because that's how we all win!

They're really open about how things work and the commission structure is very simple, so I'm able to see how much others in the company are making and there is big potential if I can hustle and do well.

Hey @Seegs ! Shitty ass news, but sounds like you’ve already started to take in the positives; good stuff.

I was laid off two weeks before Christmas for the first time in my career. Definitely went through the 7 stages.

Please let me know if I can help in any way; my DMs are open :)

Weirdo but correct! This is the time to celebrate and hustle, not waste any of my limited brain power on anything in the past 🤪

Glad you’re happy and hope you find something quickly or the commission job provides what you are looking for. I’m sorry to hear about the news, however.

What a great spirit you have after the Layoff, wish everyone has half of it if they have been into the same situation.

From your story I understood that it's a win win situation for you, either they would let you rejoin with full payout and benefits or being fully laid off then you would get severance and all my built up vacation pay, plus starting to make money after getting to the employment insurance office.

I advise you to wait and see how things are gonna work after the 13 weeks are over and really wish you the best at your next step and much of luck!
