What a weird thing to say...

I have a great working relationship with my AE... We do call-downs together, create prospecting plans together, and overall just work very closely with each other during our prospecting efforts.

Today my RVP told my AE to "cut the umbilical cord" with me. Which I find odd (and offensive), considering that I have been a top performer on my team for the duration of my employment; and a very large percentage of his "at-bats" come from my outreach, or my ideas.

Why TF would he not want us to keep working closely together?

Side note - My promotion has been stalled for 3 months due to no openings on the team I want to join (AE's on this team that were supposed to be eligible to move up and create openings, have not been promoted yet).

Tell your rvp to fuck off.
What was their reasoning?
If the collaboration is yielding results why stop?

Basically my thoughts too. What was the provocation? From the story you are sharing, it seems like a sudden onset. Has there been some tension building between you and the rvp?

What's the reasoning? Is the RVP thinking that by decoupling you guys, the results will be 2X? Is the goal to get the AE doing more of his own work? Most importantly, is the AE making quota?

Or is the RVP thinking the AE is doing all of the work? I don't get it.

I hear the exact opp, managers wants bdrs and AEs to be as collaborative as possible. Are they related?

Itโ€™s quite possible that the request has nothing to do with you and everything to do with something your AE isnโ€™t doing (ie not sourcing any of their own opps)

Your RVP is probably sensitive and/or jealous. He can fuck all the way off though.

maybe just a one off comment? I wouldn't make too much of it unless their actions echo that sentiment.
