What did you guys study in school vs what you sell now?

Does your degree help with selling the product at all or does it not help?

This post might be from LAST march but it popped up and had to comment.

Philosophy under-grad and post-grad in Marketing Management, but I like to focus on the second half of the last one :)

I studied Human Resources. I now sell employee insurance to businesses.

Surprisingly it helps a little, I took courses on compensation and labour relations and often (unfortunately) have to sell to HR employees so it helps I can speak their language and understand what some of their goals/concerns could be.

I have a BBA and I don't think it directly helps with my actual sales. It mostly helped with getting a job since the place I work at requires at least a bachelor's degree to be hired. Also, the diploma looks dope hanging on the wall of my home office...if I could go back in time though, I would either not get the diploma or go the other way and study longer (get an MBA or a masters).

I studied Management of information systems and political science. I then worked for 1 of the big 4 companies as a digital trust consultant/auditor moved to a local consulting firm realized I didn't like management consulting. Had an opportunity that promised travel and fame, took it been tree years now.

I studied philosophy. It's all about asking questions you never get a straight answer to, so maybe it helps with sales in general. But I don't know that there's anything I can sell that would be directly benefit from a philosophy degree, besides a course on philosophy.

I have a grade 8 Education on paper (10 high school credits). I worked for way too many years in kitchens and doing manual labor before sales found me. My income has been over 100k since my second year selling.

Do you think sales should be taught at university in a similar construct to how marketing is delivered now?
