What is typical base/commission % for a company pre Series A funding?

My company went through a small round of funding and is getting ready to close on our series A. I believe it is about $5 million.

SaaS based Cybersecurity company.

I'm curious what the average % is for commission on closed deals for most companies. I assumed it was around 10%, but I am currently being offered 7.5% as a promotion to AE. Also have questions on base/OTE in the same regards.

What have you typically seen in your past/current companies?

Oof I don't recall seeing anything this specific in here to date. I'll be following.

It depends on deal sizes, sales cycles and margins realized. They may also want you to negotiate to 10%.

This is what I was thinking.... in a role where negotiation is part of your job, the likely expect you to negotiate.

Typical pre-A is 8-10% for pre-accelerator deals. Post can be 12-15%. All of this depends on CAC and margin.

This is what I see as well.

I'm in SaaS cyber security (series D) and I get 10%. Previously at another SaaS cyber security firm (public) and was also at 10%. I get the impression 10% is the average, give or take a few basis points.

So is it safe to say that my number could be due to the company’s immaturity in the space and perhaps could increase as the company grows? The offer seems well under market value and I’m wondering whether to look elsewhere or see it through.

Payout all depends on margin and cost of goods, but yes, 7.5% is lower than the average I've observed.

What's the OTE? You're moving from SDR to AE, correct?

OTE is 130k, and yes from SDR to AE.

It always is dependent on sales cycle(length, amount, etc). OTE should be around 200k based on my experience.

Sales cycle is 30-90 days, ASP is 30k, OTE I’m being offered is 130k

That seems low based on my experience and that of some of my friends in a similar situation

That is low. You need to be looking at closer to 180k OTE IMO with that cycle length & ASP.

8-10% for SaaS is still the standard without accelerators. Unless you have hardware components or more restrictive overhead then I'd expect somewhere around 10%.

7% trail. keeping them on platform is more valuable then the original sale.

Current gig starts at 5% and increases by 5% every 25% of quota, at 100% of quota it is 22%, and we are uncapped.

I should add it's a SaaS solution with managed services.

Your comp rate is very closely tied to your OTE. So think about the OTE they are offering and multiply that by your commission split and you'll figure out how much you are going to have to close in order to hit your OTE

Figured I'd update everyone here. Currently have another offer for 11% commission and almost double my base salary/OTE. Thanks for the advice everyone!
