What's it like selling a point solution?

Hey Team,

Current and previous company I have worked for have been platform solutions which combine many different point solutions into one. High upfront costs but generally works well selling to the C-Suite from a TCI and ROI perspective.

Genuinely curious to know what it's like selling a point solution where you don't have to sell the entire platform/value stream.

Are you working with less stakeholders? Budgets easier to obtain? Work with other ecosystem players who offer complimentary point solutions?

Thanks all

I can tell you that right now, the easier play is platform. Companies are either mandated to reduce point solutions down to platform offerings (aka Gong and Groove out, pickup Outreach or Salesloft), or they are doing it naturally to save costs.

I have never sold a point solution in my career, but have had partnerships with them to strengthen platform weaknesses. Every time we brought the point in the prospect tried to figure out if they could just buy that solution since it was cheaper and usually just needed a CC, not a PO.

I've done both.
Both have their advantages, and as @poweredbycaffeinenoted consolidation plays into the platform vendors strengths.
However, I recently jumped from a platform to join a point solution. I've noticed our customers appreciate we do 1 thing really well, and integrate with all the major platforms.
Sometimes it's better to be really good at 1 thing vs mediocore at a whole bunch.

Totally agree. At a platform company now for a very specific vertical. Some point solutions are still preferred as they do one critical job very well

selling a point solution can be easier. normally shorter sales cylces, more transactional, solving one problem, that sort of thing.
so that can be a great fit for some AEs.
But i think the future is for sure platforms. (at least in my industry)
The value of having 4 different companies to do 4 different things is going way down.
especially as the economy isnt great.
id try to sell a platform just because it could be better for your career.

Didn't expect me coming at you on this, Did you!
Do you really think I commenting on this for a +1,How pathetic!
Oops didn't have a chance to reply you back on time as I was having so much important things to do, way many respectful people to deal with and way more important targets to follow up with no haters and people to drag you down.
And btw, have you ever seen me commenting on someone's post with that reply before as I knew the answer most of the time, the man posted and didn't receive a feedback for almost a couple of hours , so I had to reply him to somehow show apology for not having the info he needed to not let him feel ignored.
Btw, Gasty should have had my email by now to push on the right track and morals should be followed in this room as no matter how knowledge and experience you have here, that should not allow you to mistreat others!
Oh, Forgot to tell you that sailors ain't rude or disrespectful!

Cool, not interested in a summary from you either. Keep commenting whatever you please...but you are no longer worth my time or energy. You get so mad when people use curse words, but you once called @antiASKHOLEracist for less...and you are still somehow here after that act. Enjoy your time here, but we shan't interact again. Farewell.

my initial guesses would be

"Can't help you here"

*insert something of no value*

"Never heard of it"

"I second this"

anyway... it doesn't matter. lmao I just like to call out spammers.

Spamming is what you're doing right now, you didn't even reply to the original poster topic except for the +1
If you're really reading my posts you wouldn't ever say this.
Check my initial reply to you at the last post here

No one has a perfect content but it should not be called spammy instead.
