What should I ask in an interview with a Series A?

first time interviewing with a Series A start up.  OTE is pretty incredible, but I know from WR and elsewhere to beware of A-C.
what should I ask to guage success, potential, and ultimately whether this will consume my life or hold a reasonable workload?

context: currently leaving a series D where I am already overloaded.  previously turned down an offer at a series B that is kinda taking off.. I imagine I'd make a whole lot but it meant 10+ hr days, no remote work and traveling often. don't regret it but defenitely left $$ on the table.

anything outside of just questions I should ask their sales leader is welcomed fam

I would curious to know about their product fit like:

What’s preventing a competitor from just copying your features today? Also renewal % for current customers

I would also find an existing rep in the org, to get the close rate %

Look up their case studies to hear how they help

Kosta has a lot of good points.

In addition, since it is early: how much runway is there, how many current customers, retention rate, and how much of the sales process will you need to create?

In short: do they know what they’re doing?

lol well hope you aren't in the future after their significant layoffs and lack of analytics strategy. I have tried to help them for years, but they would cut off their nose to spite their face post-Covid.

I would try to understand what their growth and GTM strategy is and how they evaluate future trends for their vertical. Do they seem to know what they are doing? Does the team have people who complement each other?

VCs often evaluate if they are investing in a company that has a chance to IPO vs will end up getting acquired:
- does the company have a first mover advantage?
- if not, does the company have a shot of being a leader for their vertical?

If they answer is no to at least one of them, best shot for the company is to get acquired (or merge with other tech) so your evaluation would be to understand that. Best of luck 🙏

There are a few threads in here about Series A startups. It’s not the most favored topic.

Never trust OTE of a Series A. It's almost always just pulled out of thin air

I think it really depends on your appetite for risk. I don't mind early stage, but many on here are VERY wary.
