What to do after getting a referral

Hello Bravados, a newbie here,

I got this email from Prospect (it's translated from French):

I have forwarded your contact information to X, the person in charge of corporate marketing.

Sincerely

How I should approach the situation?

1- Ask Prospect to CC the X person

2- Thank Prospect and ask them to give me the contact of X

3- Look for X contact info and email them ( Hey, Prospect told me you're responsible over..)

Thank you.

I usually go for something closer to option 3. If you ask for the contact info they might not get back to you and it is always better to reach out when this type of stuff is top of mind. Same with the CC request. But if you just grab the contact info and reach out with a "Hi I was referred to you as the person who handles XYZ by PERSON..." you have a solid warm email that (for me) has a high response rate.

 Boom! Meeting set.

Yep, the person who forwarded the email is not likely to do another task for you; they took the time to at least give you a little info and it's up to you.  Something close to #3 is the best path, though thanking the first individual and asking for the contact info (but not waiting for it) is also not bad.

i would reach out my self and mention the person who made the introduction.

But I would try calling first. then email.

I’ve found good success using subject lines like “ John Doe asked me to reach out”.

Within the preview text (first line of email) you can say something like,

“Hey Bob, had a great conversation with John and he mentioned we should connect . -insert context, personalization etc-“

When the prospect follows up but doesn’t agree to a time, let them sit for a week then bump them with:

“Hey Bob, have you had a chance to think this over? Really looking forward to connecting with you further.”

Works for me on the enterprise side (as a BDR) where the majority of meetings are set via referrals.

Subject Line: Hey "X", "Y" Pointed me your way!

Hi X,

I connected with "Y" about "Z". He mentioned you are in charge of "W" and also noticed "Z" in your "LI profile, Website, etc."

We have helped others achieve whatever the fuck.

Would you be open to learning more?

Previous answer is related to #3.

However, I have also used #2 successfully.

Hi John,

Thank you for the info, I truly appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

Would it be too much trouble to get a quick email intro? If not, no worries. I just thought I'd ask (:

Thanks again!

Best,

Believe it or not, this has worked in the past and prospects have actually made the intro, which usually results in the referral replying quicker and usually willing to meet,.

I've also asked and have been ignored but nothing is lost by asking, if they don't reply you just move to #3.
