Other than using Corp Bro's sales bracket, I have read every major publication site for 'best sales companies to work for' and have asked mentors and colleagues alike. Actually have a pretty strong list of similar companies to recruit from but figured I would also ask the community

Those sites are pay for play, so throw them out.

Head to RepVue and search for the companies paying the most for AEs and BDRs. Check out Glassdoor for approval ratings from sales professionals at the companies discovered on RepVue. Then go to LinkedIn Sales Nav and find reps from those companies that have been there 3 years or less. Start your outreach.

I’d be looking for specific skill sets, rather than looking to pull from specific companies.
Hunters. Outbound expertise. Full sales cycle. Reps who have been selling for years, but aren’t too proud to pick up the phone and cold call. And also the ‘soft’ strengths too: professional, kind, team players.

Why would they leave a great company?

All that selling will be done with your comp package--no need to try any other route in this climate 😉

Why do you want to hire from specific companies?

Asking because I want to hire from places that have strong training and enablement programs. Because our sale is actually quite complicated for an SMB gig, my gut tells me reps that were trained with a sales methodology, process, and strong CRM experience would be better suited. Does that make sense? @Diablo

Companies of similar size/industry and have similar funding. It's a lot harder to take an AE at a large company and put them in a startup.

Some more context would be great.

@Sunbunny31 looking for inside SMB full sales cycle closers with 2-5 years experience with the drive to still make 60-80 dials a day as they build out their territory from scratch. I ask about strong companies to recruit from because I am really looking for places with strong sales training and enablement programs. Our sale is quite technical with lots of salesforce work, so reps who were trained with a formal sales process would be better is my gut

Good context, and that was what I assumed.   BDR/SMB reps from Marketo might be a good target.

Go after senior SDRs/BDRs who are hungry and frustrated at the promotion paths getting longer and longer for them. It'll be a tricky interview process but that's going to be your bread and butter IMO.
