When laid off, fight for what you deserve

As some of you know, I was laid off at the beginning of the month.

I got no severance, and the company didn’t pay my May commission.

I didn’t know what to do, so I contacted that guy, Dan Goodman. I had seen him a few times on my LI feed: he specializes in that stuff.

He told me to look into my contract for the unused PTO payout, write them an official letter stating everything, and see how things would go. While looking through my contract, I saw that I was eligible for a 2-week severance in case of a layoff.

I wrote them a letter that seemed like it was written by a lawyer (thanks, ChatGPT), and after a couple of follow-ups, I got everything (May Commission, unused PTO, and a 2-week severance).

So yeah just wanted to write this for people in a similar situation; fight for your stuff. Worst thing that happens is they will say no.

GREAT JOB! So many people are so flattened when they get laid off they don't do what you did or even think to do it.

And don't forget - apply for Unemployment ASAP!! Its not charity - its insurance! And you're entitled to it.

No, since I only had one consultation call. If I would have needed his help, then yes. I think he charges $500 for his service, but tbh I don’t remember how his pricing worked.

So glad you got what you deserved. Very unfortunate that some companies think Shenanigans are ok. The Shenanigans are not good for their culture. I wish more companies believed in the value of sales reps and how sales reps can grow their revenue. Positive is that the good ones do.
