When should you use video?

Saw this post by Chris Bogue and found it very informative. Really good interview. This dude has some really funny but helpful content out there. Has anyone else bumped into him? What are your thoughts on using video to improve sales? Where in the process does it make the most sense?

I don't like it.

Here's some good advice for you though if you are a fan of it:

I only use video as a Long-form Answer to current clients/partners, rather than type out a 10 paragraph email. I've found it very effective for helping build trust with current contacts, but as a prospecting tool nahhhhh.ย

For cold outreach/prospecting? Hell to the fuck no.ย

I become open to video calls vs phone once the prospect has been properly qualified. Iโ€™m not doing a video call for every Tom, Dick, and Harry I have an initial meeting with, but will do so once itโ€™s evident thereโ€™s opportunity to close.ย

Also, lots of threads on this, not specific to the interview you brought up, to use of video in general.ย ย

I never use it; somewhere I feel that itโ€™s reaching the plateau and prospects have already started to get bored (my assumption).

Like @RealPatrickBatemanย said, using it as a long form answer to a question a current client/partner asks has been really useful for me, I've used it sparingly to answer a complicated question from a prospect and have had mixed results but would never use it for cold outreach, I feel it would come off as creepy.ย

Personally I use Bombbomb for this, as it has some additional features that I love. Part of my company's model includes weekly video content sent to subscribers of one of our programs and being able to see who watched the video and how much of it they watched is great for determining who to reach out to for the purposes of upselling or conversion into our other offerings.ย

You shouldnโ€™t.
No one likes it.
No one watches it.
It serves to solve a problem no one has.

I hate cold video out reach. I get them all the time and it freaks me out every time I open one. People talking at me like they know me/my business and it always feels very disingenuous.

Video calls later in the process however I am a huge fan of. Once we have a prospect qualified via phone and are confirmed ICP we do everything over VC from there. It builds trust/relationship way quicker that way IMO.ย

Best time to send a video is to get a qualified prospect excited about your product. Best sales video I have seen is a car salesman showing off a new truck to the prospect the morning before they come in to look at the vehicle.

Eh, I use it only if someone else has it on when they join the meeting, which Iโ€™m never happy about because that means I need to always be ready for that to happen.
What assholes.
