When someone picks up but doesn't speak... what do you do?

When I first started I would nervously say hello. At this point I just start saying "Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?" because they're normally not the most friendly with cold-calling.

So I do this sometimes on purpose tbh when I get a call on my personal phone and I’m not sure who it’s from. I’ve seen articles where spammers can use AI to record your voice and use it later and some spam calls are triggered by voice so it can kind of help filter that out.

If they answer just say hello and don’t sound like a bot, and a conversation should follow.

Yeah I remember reading about that even a few years ago. I used to try and remain silent but now I just do the standard, "Hello, this is Filth.." because I want to get the call over with lol.

My humor does not get consistent enough results... I just introduce myself and if they still stay quiet I'll say something like "looks like we have a bad connection, if you can hear me I can't hear you, I'll try again later and hopefully we can actually talk"
On a side note, I have a "Save Ferris" shirt, one day i was wearing it at a store and an older gentleman came up to me very concerned and asked what happened to Ferris and if he's ok. When I told him it's just a shirt from a movie and there isn't a real Ferris he got all upset 🤣
