Where do they get salary analysis?

I see my org and others refresh salary bands and market corrections. 

what companies sell salary data per role  and form the pay grade bands ? 

I am taking about the genuine data that would be basis for decisions of attracting and retaining top talent.

anyone knows ? or have worked with compensation/ rewards program execs ?

You mean the over paid consultants who come in and pay everyone $1.45 more per year saying it's market rate and the company can save money on the long haul - the same consultants who charge $450/hour to complete the project over 6 months....

all smoke and mirrors, total BS.

I can't speak to exactly where the base numbers come from, but I also know from the larger company I'd been with that there's also an algorithm they employ to add in tenure and location, which is how they arrive at the rest of the "band".

RepVue and firms like that, I am guessing.

Comp / salary data is somehow also available on Glassdoor.

Yeah but that’s more like crowdsourced data , not well researched data probe at executive level..

My understanding is that salary data on Glassdoor is usually an aggregate of self-reports from current/former employers.

down voters are marketing spies
Usually an outside consulting firm comes in and compares cash and non cash comp to other market peers. They look at things like regional wages too.

Where do you look up these consultants - there must be some niche boutique firm doing this over and over again. What an interesting data they own .
