Where to go for a Christmas vacation?

Context; planning on doin a little pre-Christmas vacay, 12/18-12/23. I’m close to Tampa so I was thinking Spain or Jamaica.

no kids

just looking to find a place to unplug, maybe be a bit touristy.


anyone have experience at Spain or Jamaica, or can recommend a Christmas vacay spot?

Leaving the US to go somewhere that is recovering from the pandemic in their own way seems like a great idea, but when you get there and risk exposing yourself to a new strain or exposing others to one that you could be carrying, seems like an avoidable risk.

I love Spain - it’s great for beach/relax, has amazing food+culture, or if you want to party, so depending on your vibe or if you want a mix of diff things, it’s perfect. I’ve been to Madrid/Barcelona for big city exploration, highly recommend San Sebastián for food, loved road tripping through Costa Brava’s many small beach towns, the history of Granada/Alhambra was great, and really want to go to Canary Islands and Mallorca. Happy to share more!

This holiday is a new one for me, as I’ve always worked it (so my staff could take it off). 

I wish I could recommend somewhere, but the mom-in-law would quite literally die if I took her son away for Christmas things.

So given that context, let’s pretend I CAN!

Jamaica is awesome - especially if you like drugs. They literally start handing them to you in the freakin airport. 

Have not done Spain but 🤘

If you want to go on a real adventure id highly recommend Cebu, Philippines. Or any luxury island in he Philippines. The ocean is amazing, people are friendly and everyone speaks English (if that’s your main language).

Spain at Christmas is pretty cold. If you want a nice hot destination i’d say Mexico or the canary islands like Gran Canaeria is hotter than Spain at Christmas

I love the snow but up until now was just thinking of unplugging, going down the slopes, warming up with an Irish coffee and enjoying a j or 2 sounds fantastic.

If you're looking to unplug, I'd recommend going a little bit more off the beaten path. Those places you mentioned are gonna be crowded.

Good point for sure; though I’m not exactly world-travelled so I don’t know where I would go lol, I just know what my budget is and that I wanna have good drinks, good food, and possibly good cannabis.

With you being in a warm climate, a trip with some snow might be fun! Maybe head up to Colorado for some skiing and good weed? It'll also make you appreciate the weather you have in Tampa as well.

I went to both Spain and Jamaica in 2019. I would recommend going to Spain. We did Seville, Madrid and Barcelona. Seville was my favorite because its a small, quintessential cobblestone European town with beautiful architecture and delicious food and culture. Really a once in a lifetime trip!
