Which territory whch you choose based on these options

I was given the option to choose my territory for next year given that I am the top performer. They're getting smaller (obviously right).

I sell primarily into b2b and b2c brands for things like software, consumer electronics/brands

The options are:

NY

North East so: DE, DC, MD, NJ, CT, ME, MA, NH,RI, VT

Canada

A couple of factors:

1) if I take NY I won't lose any of it next year

2) I am located in Canada so I do play that card when talking to Canadian companies. That said, like all software companies we charge in USD so sometimes it makes things a little bit more expensive for Canadian companies due to the exchange rate.

3) North East did have the most amount of opportunities, ARR created in the past year to date.

Most leads, and the potential for government contracts in DC, I choose NE

Does NY state include NYC or is it everything outside of NYC? If it includes NYC that’s what I’m taking at my company. Yours could be different but I’m very surprised the NE territory produced more than NYC unless the rep was significantly better.

It includes NYC - that would be the main reason to go with it. And I suppose I should say it’s not that more deals closed in NE, more opps were created and 95% of which come via inbound.

NY for sure then...I’ve found they just move quicker. Also they don’t pretend to be interested to spare your feelings. When I worked an NYC territory I just found there was much less garbage in my pipe.

Having less garbage in the pipeline is underrated.   I love the brutal honesty of NYC.

Yes key thing selling into NYC is that they're not necessarily mad at you they just talk like that.  No BS.

Depends on the segment you are selling into. I am currently selling into NE and it has been fruitful for me

North East has great potential. I would always look at that broader Market.

Government is tight, so is Boston. Plus you'll get a nice carve of start-ups that are based in Jersey just to say they are close to new york.

I literally said i primarily sell to software companies and consumer electronics /consumer brands - not 100% of those would apply to our product but almost.

NY.  I had NYC as my Territory, and could tell you almost to the dollar what I was going to close in any given month.  People seem to not fuck around there.  It can be demoralizing getting straight-up no's, please leave though.  I was selling F2F.

Canada’s a sleeper. They have 3 major cities. What are you selling?

Is it a specific vertical or anything and everything? Depending on that I think the choices will differ

No specifical vertical….but we work best with other software companies. I think Ill get companies 0-750 employees

Gotcha. The software scene in NYC is killer, so might be best to stay in a metropolitan hub. But that’s just me, you know?

Couple factors:
if your cycles are quick, go bigger market.

if it’s a long cycle, narrow in and go NY. Should still be tons of opp but you’re not bouncing around a bigger territory.

hopefully they let you travel a little. Beautiful this time of year in New England.

I sell into very similar verticals and for some reason there is constant commotion in Boston area. Even moreso than NY. So I’d go NE through and through

personally I'm a fan of more opportunity so if the NE is offering the most pipeline I take that.

So I chose NE then after a bunch of internal talk they told me I had to take NYC because they need to ensure we’re getting the most ARR out of there and I was a top performer this past year.

Are we Fedramp certified? The Boston area is growing in the tech market (jobs etc) and DC along with Reston have the opportunity for gov contacts. NE for me.

Wouldn’t be swilling to the fed government based on our product and the size of companies I work with in mid market
