2 final interviews with two different companies tomorrow!

Yoooo! First and foremost I have to thank all of you in here who've been dropping some HEAT under my last few posts. I have two final interviews tomorrow with two companies I'm really interested in.

*Account Executive Role*

Heres the rundown on each:

Company 1:

Description: Selling digital marketing services to real estate and insurance professionals. Mostly cold calling warm leads 40 hrs per week. Smile and dial 8 hrs per day.

- $40k base salary + commission ($80k-$100k OTE)
- Full healthcare benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401k match)
- No weekends or nights
- Paid time off

Company 2:

Description: Selling merchant services to small/medium size businesses. Generate my own leads, set appointments, cold call, email, face to face, networking events, etc.

- 100% commission based ( 50% of each deal closed, with avg deal size $4k-$6k) + lifetime residual pay for the lifetime of each client account. (25% of the client’s monthly payment)
- full healthcare benefits, 401k match, portfolio ownership (keep the monthly residual income even if I leave the company in the future).
- make my own schedule.

I really do love both products/services, and based on my past experience I feel as though I’ll have no issues selling either. I’m leaning more towards the second company just because it’s similar to what I’m already used to and I love going out and hunting for my deals rather than cold calling all day. Although I’d be happy working for either company based on the research I’ve done.

I’m going to smash both of these interviews tomorrow, no doubt. I’ll let you guys know how they go!

Good luck! Second one sounds a little "pyramid scheme"y - so make sure to ask lots and lots of questions, but fingers crossed you land both and get to choose!

I was thinking it sounded like that as I typed lmao. But it's W2 with benefits, I'm not paying to be hired, and there's also no recruiting people like MLM. It's a tech company that provides merchant services and payment processing to businesses like restaurants, gyms, trainers, day cares, dry cleaners, etc.

Always do what's best for you. I've always been a fan of base + commission because it makes so many other aspects of life easier (securing mortgages, for example), but if you feel the commission-based job is best for you after you've discussed with them, then that's your decision.

Best of luck to you!

Hope they go well!! Keep us updated!

And I worked in merchant services - our field sales were 100% commission based, so I don't think that sounds pyramid-y at all. BUT I like base + commish. It's also a grind and a half

Did you enjoy your role selling merchant services? What were your biggest negatives that you experienced in that role?

It was my first gig, over 10 years. It was very transactional and super competitive. I did well and became a manager very quickly, but commissions weren't great, and a lot of colleagues were giving the company a bad name by misleading prospects on rates as it could be so complex when it came to qual vs. nonqual, interchange etc. and monthly minimums.

It was purely inside, and you had to hammer the phones. It can be tough to get a hold of the right person, and they often are not sophisticated buyers.

Definitely taught me how to work hard though.

That’s a tough choice.

If you can go 6-12 months with little to no income, I’d go #2. Otherwise I’d go #1.

Here’s an update for everyone on this.

I just received an offer letter today from the 2nd company.

The first company has me doing another interview tomorrow, and they want me to do a “seat ride” for an hour with one of their current AE’s to hear them make live calls. After the first hour I meet with the Sales Manager.

Congratulations and good luck!

A word of caution about Company #2. From what I've heard, SMB's change merchant services regularly...very price sensitive and cut-throat. Don't get enamored with the idea of a lifetime residual...it's probably not going to amount to much.
