A Little Venting - Job BS

TLDR: leadership at my company is a joke and trying to make themselves look good.

So, some of you may remember my last post about my role being eliminated and they forced me into a BDR role under the Enterprise channel(I'm not changing my LinkedIn or anything to reflect that).

They have announced company-wide that I have been "promoted".... pretty damn sure it's a step backwards. Aren't promotions supposed to be a step forward in a career along with a raise or something... I got a pay cut... Something isn't adding up.

Now before you say anything, I am looking and I have a few options available which are better than where I am at right now.

What are some of the BS ways you have seen or heard a company doing to hide or cover up their shady shit?

Kind of going through a similar thing at my company right now. I don’t think I have any colleagues lurking but can never be too sure…

Long story short: I’m suspicious they want to use my playbook to create and run outbound and then demote me to BDR.

Not so much taking it to heart, but annoyed as fuck about it at the same time. People aren't stupid, they can piece it together.
The other shitty thing is we just announced growth YoY by 17% and profitable by a large margin.... Why the pay cut then?

Oh yeah, and the first time they announced it to sales and marketing was at lunch. The purpose of the lunch was to “bring forth exciting news”. I was visibly NOT thrilled.

TLDR: You can't trust crusty old fucks. Period. End of Story.

I was at a company yeaaars ago where I brought in the single most profitable deal in the history of the company. Leadership patted me on the back, gave me all the ada' boys. Asked me to make a presentation to the ENTIRE company about the process and highlight the "keys for success", told me to brag about how much I pulled in so others would be motivated.

Two weeks later when it came time to be paid my commission, they gave me less than 10% of what I should have earned per my comp plan. I legit thought it was an accounting mistake, because to make SO little on a deal that leadership clearly felt was invaluable would be ludicrous.

I was informed that because ONE of my KPI's (we had about 7 core KPI's at the time) was below the 100% target (I believe I was at like 86-87%) that I wasn't "eligible" for the full payout.... I had a meeting with leadership (face to face) to see wtf was going on. Yup, they were gonna stiff me to my face too... Fuck em.

So instead of getting my $29k commission, I would be getting $2500. After knocking down their original objections to me getting paid (Net new meetings booked is great, but if Im reeling in a whale why would it matter?) it slips out that "No one in the company has ever earned that much in a quarter"... Which you would think would be a good thing right? Nope. The "I never made that much money at your age" BS objection was alive and well. Fuck em.

I left the company that day on the spot. Fuck em.

That company is currently on it's last leg and will most likely shutter by years end. Fuck em.

Moral of the story. Fuck em.

Damn, you needed a new place that appreciated your business cards and the business they brought in.

“One of my kpi’s was off..” so because one KPI was off(not by much), it lowered your payout by 90% ish percent…. I would have left that day too

Yeah, there was no legitimate logic or sound reason to the decision. I knew if I stayed that wouldn't be the last time they fucked me. So I chunked the deuces that day.

A different department at my last company approached me about changing roles. Complete change in scope, but would have had an immediate impact to a scaling team…. They then turned around and said I’d have to take a 20% pay cut. 🤦‍♂️

Seen that trick many times. They want you to feel good and they don't want the company thinking that things are bad and folks are getting jerked around. Most see through that smoke screen pretty easily.

Near scenario here, at my old company there was a massive layoff circle and they used to tell new hires that there was a high demand on annual PTOs&Unpaid leaves to avoid getting em panic and leave the place too:)

My director (who was terrible) just went through this, forced back to IC where he was fantastic.
IMO this was a good move, sometimes your strengths in a previous role don't translate.
Sometimes companies are cunts.
