Amazon Interview

Okay WR,

Enough sass. (SAAS - heh)

Interview with Amazon on Friday, I've passed 2 screening interviews and now onto the BIG panel... anyone here with an inside track on what I can expect? L6 Role

I know the Leadership principles inside and out, and have great metrics to back up my STAR responses, just looking to get over the hill here with my clear impostor syndrome shit.

I have a feeling I've already chatted with my bar raiser, and had a candid post second screen a few minutes ago with the big boss that is paving the way for me. Saying the panel is a 50/50 shot for most people, and my school may work against me as they aren't as prestigious as the other ones I am up against.

Basically I am up against folks that have gone to the big name brand schools, I went to a very no name school, but have grown in my career as a constant learner and leader for change, with teams that our preform seasoned vets/peers.

They enjoy that fact that my family is 100% relocatable anywhere in the world too...

Looking for some inside tracks/tips specifically

It's not about the stamps on your resume, it's what you do. If you are an executor and can articulate you do what you say and you inspect what you expect, you'll differentiate yourself.

Amazon looks for people on their feet, not people looking to get paid just for their brain.

Please let us know how it goes, you'll do great.

How does the school work against you?ย  And what kind of metric is that?ย  ย I'm thinking it shouldn't matter one bit at this stage.ย  ย Who TF cares if you have CSU rather than Stanford or Harvard on your resume?ย  ย Your prospects don't.ย  ย I'd ignore that comment and go crush the panel.ย  You can do it.

The big tech companies are taking a page out of the book from Finance/VC/HedgeFunds in which they have "Target Schools". Unfortunate, but honestly as much as I hate it, theyre not wrong. At a certain level of business, acumen will only get you so far, network and connections is what they are relying on and going to a "Target School" generally means you have a higher profile network than say a "Non-Target School".ย

Network > Education is the model....

Yeah, that's sad.ย  ย I'm so far removed from my graduation date that it really does not matter in my case.ย  Over 20 years selling experience is more important than where my document was minted.ย  That said, I had to pass a background check for the first time in a very long time, and couldn't put my hands on a copy of my diploma.ย  Getting that validated was a bit of a PIA in pandemic times.ย  But I digress.

I think they were giving me a heads up of the other people gunning for the role and their resumes. Some with more book learnin' and some with more time in a role. It's for a role in another country too - so am competing with locals vs my alienself.ย

I am hungry to grow - it's evidenced with my career projection, and successes. Just hope it pans out. If not, no hard feelings. I buckle down and work harder for it in the future if I don't get blackballed.ย

Had a friend who appeared and cleared all the rounds (had 5 in all but not for Sales) but didn't join due to xyz reason.

Couple of things - doesn't matter where you did your academics from, what matters is now you will fill the role and wbat changes will you bring once you join. Trust me - all are not as smart as you think that are coming out these branded schools.

They focus a lot on Star approach that they follow and ownership as well.ย

It will be helpful for you to book a 15 mins call with the HR coordinator to see what's their expectations will be out of this call like what they will be evaluating you on etc. etc.

Wish you all the best man, nail it.

AM
I am currently an AM for Amazon after a stint in AE. Be confident, know a bit about the product you'll be selling, and they will not give a shit about anything else. AMZN hire generalists as well in roles like this, they'll want you to wear lots of hats so show your comfort & ability in that as well.ย ย

it's different for every org, AMs are L5 or L4; usually hired at L4 and promo'd up to L5. L6 typically means people management as well

yeah, its a peep and product role. Interesting. I appreciate the info. Panel chat was about interviewing for a role higher, but might get offered L5 role to prove value etc.ย

Very interesting. I have a feeling I know who the Bar raiser is, but complete wild card.
