Annoying Head Hunters

I've got two head hunters, one of which who has been on my ass for months, telling me they have companies interested in me and they are within my salary requirements etc.

They keep telling me they're going to set an interview date, and they asked for my availability, and they confirmed the companies wanted to interview me, and yet they haven't scheduled anything!

it's been a week, I know that isn't THAT long but my field is fairly specialized which means they get far fewer applicants than what those of you in tech see. They usually get 20-100 applicants and I know from experience there is no way there are even 100 people in my region and industry that have the right experience for these positions.

I've also been applying to positions on my own that I know I'm qualified for, but they don't get back to me. I wonder if it's because I've never been somewhere more than two years? I mean if these companies would pay enough or make sound business decisions, I'd stay for a decade!

As long as I can work for a better company for more pay, I never see a reason to stay somewhere.

I've only had one legitimate headhunter reach out to me. Similar to your experience, we had a phone conversation, seemed to be aligned on my experience, compensation requirements, etc. Then nothing. For over 3 months now. I don't think these people care.

Good recruiters are few and far between, unfortunately even the good ones have to play middle man and deal with shitty companies so there's that.

I would respond and ask for an update and that you are not looking to waste your time, and that if they cant schedule and interview in the next few days than you are not interested in moving forward.
that should help get a response

Recruiters ONLY care about themselves. Their clients are the company's they recruiter for. Once you understand that, everything is easier to deal with.
You, the applicant, are NOT their client. You are a dollar sign - much like a 'john' at a stripper club. They see 100+ resumes/day and they are trying to fit the round peg into the round hole.
A recruiter doesn't care about you, your family, your career, etc. They care about filling their client's position, which then equals a payday for them. That's it. So unless you are actively doing that for them, they won't bother with you.

Just let them know you are still expecting their response. If things are not moving let you know

I feel for our recruiter brethren. They're to an extent salespeople as well except they're selling us jobs. I've had a couple of bad ones but you can't write them all off.
