I said yes, but what you really want is more of a talk track.
Scripts are too fixed and can often sound robotic, but a talk track outlines the key pieces that you want to cover and often help you easily pivot, while reducing the amount of mental exertion from call to call. Especially if you're keeping your list similar, like vertical or position, then it becomes easy to repeat and iterate.

Shit - You beat me to this.

When I help our outbound team with these things, I stick to a simple set of bullets on key points to make and questions to ask.

I organize this into stages of the call:
- Intro
- Ask
- Objection Handling
- Close

The concept of a script is too inflexible, and your BDR's / SDR's won't build the mental map they need to outperform and get promoted if they're stuck using someone else's words.

Yeah the bullet points are nice to have as reminders for your call.

At least you have something you can edit so I think it is better to have one than none

Itโ€™s all about process and being able to hit key points. Practice is very important for that.

You should absolutely have a script in front of you. Doesn't mean you have to follow it, and you shouldn't robotically follow it, but you need to know what you're going to say and when.

I even script out my demos, etc.

And I think you answered your own question - when its well practiced. Just like in sports - you need to practice your sales pitch.

A script for cold calling is ok as long as it's a bit adaptable to the prospect. Also, once you get the meeting throw the scripts out.

It really helps as a guideline to what comes next and which part of the call you are in - also if you get off track its nice to have something to jump on again to follow through

Its always good as a starting off point and then you can add your own flavor and voice to it

WE ALL USE A SCRIPT THAT WORKS FOR US.
Sorry for yelling, in sales we have to be flexible, quick and smart to know when to change A with B or C but we all use a script that works for us. The importance of a script is just a guide and you make it your own.

It's great to have a structure of where you want to go and what you want to uncover before pitching, but the goal is to be as fluid as possible, if you can't organically go off rails you're going to bomb and turn off prospects.

So yes, with the caveat that it should never be rigid.
