BDRs at Salesforce?

Wondering how the BDR experience at Salesforce has been for people in the position. Have an interview there next week and curious if you have any advice for someone deciding if they want to join or not. Curious how long people end up stuck in role seeing there's already over 2000 BDRs and what the day to day life is like. Ive heard the quota is insane but I’m coming from another Sr. BDR role at a startup so used to making calls all day, just wanted peoples overall experience and what to expect if I do get an offer and accept.

Had a friend who was a BDR there

Pros: you will get promoted if you’re any decent, very good opportunities to progress/network, a lot of people take people with them to start-ups etc., it’s what you make of it in that regard

Cons: it is a grind, especially if you’re mid-market.

This is what I've heard. It's not bad to have on your resume either BUT no "ex-Salesforce" on your LI page, or you will be mocked ruthlessly.

Why make a lateral move when you can get an AE job at another company?

Great question, I’m actually returning from an 8 month long career break from family things I had to deal with so I feel like with the job gap plus 0 closing experience it’ll be impossible with the current market in the bay. Also hoping for my next company to be place I can be for a few years and my experience at a startup was pretty terrible. Do you think it would still be possible to get a AE role given the circumstances?

Did you have a trajectory to AE pre-gap?

I feel that I did, I’d be in the role for 18 months and they were (apparently) going to train me for a Jr. AE position depending on the success of the org in H2 but I could see they were slowly going downhill which is ultimately why I was so OK with leaving the org with no backup plan. Felt like they were giving false promises of promotion but I consistently demonstrated I was a top performer so I figured my id take my odds, they laid off the entire BDR team this past December so looks like they were jerking me around anyways.

youre taking a dice roll working at the big boys right now with more layoffs potentially looming but like dionysus said if you have the skillset you wont spend long in a bdr role their either way

Isn't that supposed to be the point? Are there career BDRs?

Few and far between but the role hasn't existed for long enough to say if anyone will be a lifer. My bet is as AI tools get better and outreach becomes brutally oversaturated itll make more sense to pay a bdr at ae levels to manage it solo than the free money era model of hiring 3x what you need hoping they can shotgun you into the right meetings.

They ALWAYS seem to be laying people off. And also always seem to be hiring....

Haven’t worked there myself but heard some good things from others. Definitely sounds like a grind but will look amazing on the resume and the growth opps are endless. Keep us updated if you accept!

All the best!
Haven't worked but heard it's good. But you know what happens when mass lay offs take place.

I was an ENT BDR for MC, supporting two teams, and got "promoted" to SMB AE Marketing Cloud a year after. It helped that I was a top performer QoQ as well as heavily networked with my AEs and their managers. *NOW* that was 2017-2018 so not sure how things are *but* if you are looking to get into tech, get first-hand experience with a well-known brand, or wanting business development experience to stregthen your profile, I'd say it's a good place to be.
