Best Free Prospecitng Tool for job search?

Hello WR,

Hope you're all staying sane. Part of my job search is finding hiring managers and cold messaging them/building rapport and a prospecting tool would make life a lot easier.

However, I no longer have access to my work email and I'd rather not pay monthly for a CRM/prospecting tool.

My thought process is this.

  • Find a relevant Hiring manager for the role I'm interested in/get a referral

Send a message like this "

“Hi {name}, Based on my success in Account Management at 'X', I thought I might be a good fit for the Account Executive/Account Management role at {Company}, It looks like you know {name} who may be the hiring manager, would I be able to get an introduction?”

  • If they say no/can't help you etc, I respond with:

"I appreciate your response!

Should I find another candidate who fits the job description provided, I’d be happy to refer them to you. If you find any roles that you feel I would be a better fit for, I’d be happy to hear about them as well."

And do this at volume to get past applying for the roles through LI or the company website.

I had a few interviews last week that went well, but they passed on me for people with more closing experience/people from Salesforce.

Any thoughts on how I could improve this or maybe pointers for how to proceed?

Good old fashioned going to websites of companies you are interested in, finding roles, and applying. Then reaching out to hiring managers on LI.
Did you check the CorpBro list of companies that are hiring? That is free, and maybe there's something there.

I have used Excel for tracking and Word for cut/paste templates.

You don’t anything fancy. Pen and paper work in place of Excel too.

Lavender offers their services free for job seekers. It's actually genius by them to do so too. people that need a job use Lavender then when they go into a company that doesn't have lavender become a huge advocate for it.

I think you can use the free version of Zoominfo if you're looking for a baseline of competitive intel on the company you are applying too.
As for tracking I use to literally write them down on a graph paper, abbreviated and cross them off one by one. Likely not the most efficient way, as Excel can get you more volume but I found that the act of writing it down forced me to slow down and increase my focus, thereby increasing my quality.
Good luck!
