Best qualifying out messages

Hello everyone,

wonder what your "coolest" "you're not interested - then ok - let's together qualify out" message is?

Think those are hard to do, but very necessary if we want to focus our time where the money is...

Here is one I sent this week :-)

------

Hi XYZ,

I hope this finds you well.

As I have not heard from you in more than two weeks, I want to be upfront and admit that I currently don't see a 2 way exchange and so will politely and gracefully disengage.

So, in essence, this email is to reassure you that if you're looking to partner with us, we're here to help. If not, no worries at all and I'll close the loop on this conversation so we can all focus on other things.

Please stay well.

Cheers,

so i get the point, trying to be clear that if things dont progress, you are putting it on them and not you.

idk if its really necessary. if you are working with someone and dont hear back for 2 weeks.....they have already disengaged haha.

I might go with

hi ____

Its been a while since Ive heard from you and I was wondering if ______ was still a priority or if you have had to move on to other initiatives?

Let me know if there is a better time to follow up,

thanks

very nice. I like it.
From my perspective as a team lead it is more about ensuring that my team has a "process" to qualify out where appropriate to ensure they focus on what makes the most sense...

That could work.

I was referring to all the extra words and flowery language.

Write like you text, not like you're trying to pad an essay to reach a page minimum.

In Never Split the Difference, Chris Voss mentioned just sending " Have you given up on this project?"

I tried it for the first time yesterday and got 3 responses, 1 was a scheduled meeting, 2 no's

Yeah, if I send one of these, it's often phrased like that, which gives them an out.

If they still don't connect, I cut ties. If they do, it's usually because the project has reached some kind of delay (and in many of those cases, that's the first sign it's not a priority and I'm already downgrading the opportunity).

Iโ€™m just a big fan of emails that look like texts. Takes them 5 secs to read and they donโ€™t have to think hard to respond

Get rid of "I hope this finds you well." You are not a Civil War soldier writing a letter to your betrothed.

I feel like the first part of the message accuses the prospect of something, and that usually leads to ghosting.

Fair point.
Could also just remove part 1.

This is a good draft but the CTA is sort of optional I.e. more of a close ended conversation. I always ask them to be mindful of each others time and request them to take a FEW SECONDS to respond and I hear back many times.

First, if this was a cold prospect (suspect) and you didnโ€™t hear back, I wouldnโ€™t send a breakup email. If, however, this was someone you had spoken with and had a โ€œsales processโ€ going already and itโ€™s been a long time (more than two weeks), I think itโ€™s fair to find out definitively that they either have interest (and just havenโ€™t made this their top priority) or they donโ€™t wish to further the conversation. Iโ€™d be careful on your wording, though. It would be a shame to offend someone to the point they no longer want to engage with you based on your email if in fact they were just busy and had other more pressing issues to deal with.

I might say:

Hi XYZ,

I wanted to circle back on our last conversation to gauge your level of interest in exploring what ABC Company can bring to the table.

If nowโ€™s not a great time to explore these options, I completely understand. If I donโ€™t hear back from you, I will assume this is the case and will plan to reach out from time to time to check in.

I have enjoyed our conversation/s and look forward to reconnecting with you when the timing makes sense.

Respectfully,
Jane/John Doe

Do I need to call 911 or are you totally fine and this project has been dropped from the priority list?"

I just keep it very polite and clean by saying "we do not see a match" or "we will not continue the process"
