Big Sad, Send Vibes

Oh, not for me, I'm good as hell.

However, a bunch of Gong Thongs got their last laundry ticket today. F's in the chat for the Gongsters that are hitting the bricks.

If you're selling a non-mission-critical tool, it's time to open up the eyes and ears and find a role on a team that cannot be ripped out of a tech stack without causing excruciating pain.

Disclaimer: I am not happy humans lost their jobs today. This is all in jest.

I feel like its definitely a trend of the sales side of the org being targeted. A lot of the layoffs are in Sales and a lot of the companies doing layoffs are CRM companies or tech used by sales people like Gong, SFDC, and Hubspot
This can be that I am just biased and just notice it more when sales are laid off and I know the sales tech companies but its still suprising

My opinion (based on observation, therefore anecdotal and not based on any study:
Overhiring due to companies wanting to oversaturate the market rather than focus on hiring reps for a good core team.
This led to years of reps turning over stones and using desperate sales tactics because too many reps = nobody making their quota. The company doesn't care because every single contact in the database, qualified or not, is getting called so they know they're not missing out on any revenue, and they're getting their db scrubbed as an added benefit. Now the companies are "rightsizing" and going back to where they should have been all along. Crazy.

My manager also provided an observation: companies hired some reps at the top of the pay scale, when they were actively looking for reps. They are now shedding those higher salaries via layoff, and may be hiring back at a lower rate.
