Can you do Financial Forensics as a Sales Person on Prospect?

Any financial space sellers here who analysis other companies' health as part of their prospecting? I am looking for ways to discover the segment of companies who have struggle managing their cashflow or paying their suppliers very late. Where would you go for this sort of information? What are modern ways to crawl public data to get some hints on these?

Back when I was in large corporates - I know that S&P's CapitalIQ and Bloomberg type data solutions have such financial forensic insights (atleast on public companies) but they are very inaccessible tools for small business. What tools would you use in today's world?

Just a few things I do myself but not in financial space:

If it is a listed company, you can look at their financials statements or earning reports then have a look at the revenue, income, debt, balance, cash flows. Calculate EBIT and EBITDA that should give you some idea. Plus you see if they invested in something last year somewhat
Is it 30 days 60 days 90 days payment terms?

Then also you can subscribe for financial magazines in all countries and they will often list this information out or they have analysts going through this information.

Investment group on stocks on Facebook, Twitter have a pretty good understanding of how the companies are doing

If financial information is not available then use LinkedIn. You can see how they are hiring or from website. A lot of open positions across different departments is good. Sometimes job ads say that hey need you to work on implementing this or that or develop this means they have money for new position and tools around it.

On Sales Navigator you can see whether headcount is growing or not. Again could vary, but growth is usually positive

Hope that helps

Strongly agree, I believe also that the legal department at the company can help with that too, if the ways you mentioned weren't fruitful enough after being utilized, and you really need the info!

No legal team at any company is going to divulge financial information like that on request, Max.

If it is a private company this is next to impossible unless you have an in somehow, private companies have no need to report any of this and maybe you could get lucky by going through collection agencies and seeing if debts are in collections.
