CEO wants me to put demo script on website

My CEO loves documenting internal processes and organization details on our company website within our "Handbook", a la GitHub/GitLab.

I love this org transparency, but now he's wanting me to put our full sales demo script, including "click here, show this" level details to be publicly available.

I think it's weird and have never considered something like this, as it totally gives away that you're reading off a script and takes some of the value and authority away from you on a demo. It kind of makes you look like a sales bro just giving a stock standard demo who doesn't really understand the technology, even if that isn't the case.

Was wondering what the community thought.

Is having the demo script publicly available on the company website weird?

Seems weird, but if that's all he wants then I'd do it to get him off my nuts.

it's weird because every script needs to be tailored to the needs of the prospect. By putting it out there you could scare away other prospects because they do not see a fit with that script

Agreed, but if the boss wants it hard to argue.

It’s very, very weird but mostly stupid. There is nuance, meaning, intent and likely some sensitive info contained there.

There’s so much wrong with this. There is a reason why organizations split internal/external comms.

Having a video of the demo - normal. Just a script - weird.

CEO = do it and it's their consequences not yours.
That being said, this is weird...but I say "how high?" whenever my CEO tells me to jump (which always means make a new fucking excel spreadsheet with the same info that exists somewhere else...CEOS man).

So is this something only other employees can access?
If so who cares?

No this is something everyone can publicly access. Most engineers know about externally available company handbooks for values, processes, etc. So someone could go to our website and go to the Company tab, then see Handbook right below About Us and Careers, then see the Sales section, then see the demo script word for word.

Meh, how many people are actually gonna do that though.
Just do what the boss wants and move on.

Ok. 1st question
1.) What is the CEO's background because the response you give to overcome this will largely be dependent on the type of person he is.

The problem is he is assuming that every prospect is one size fits all which they are not. and everyone's problem/solution is likely a tailored need, by blasting out a demo you are causing a problem. People are going to make assumptions on the product and assume answers that are likely wrong. Sales will have more challenges to overcome that can otherwise be avoided.

What is his goal of posting the demo? Boost demo requests?? Save time for sales?? Like why does he want this to be a thing and then you can likely find a different/better solution.

Weird and unproductive. If you are simply reading off a script and clicking where you're told, that means that you're not asking questions and not understanding the customer's needs.
You can do a 2 hour product demo, but if you don't touch on the functionality that pertains to the customer's pain-points, than you've lost the deal entirely and wasted everyone's time.

I mean, the decision is being made above your pay grade. We can all think it's weird, but it's out of your hands.
But since you also asked opinions, yes, it's weird. A script being released is just odd. Demo videos or an end-to-end overview? Normal. The script itself? Weird. And as oldcloser pointed out, you're giving the competition insight into your exact process. That's an unforced error.

So many reasons why this is an idiotic idea.
Top of mind for me: If you post your demo script online, and then more or less go word for word in an actual demo.... What's the point of the demo?

It’s stupid. Now having a video overview that prospects can engage with? That’s the future. The more a prospect and can into a conversation informed, the better it is. But ya, it sounds like your CEO loves robots and is proud of it.
