Christmas Shutdown?

As we approach the holidays, I'm curious how many companies are shutting down for the week of Christmas.

I've been at companies that do, ones that don't, and one that did but earmarked a few of your PTO days for it. Thankfully that last one had enough that it didn't matter.

My current company's last day is next Friday, Dec. 22, and then we're back on Jan. 2. It's only 3 days that aren't statutory holidays, and nothing really happens, but I still think it's really helpful to make sure employees are refreshed and feel appreciated.

What's the situation for my fellow Savages?

BONUS QUESTION: Does anyone have fun plans or getting a cool EoY gift from their employers?

And while it's still early, here's an obligatory "Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals"

Does your company shutdown over Christmas?

Kind of a semi shutdown on my end. Things are known to slow to a crawl during the holidays so its kind of a ‘be available - but not much expected to go down’ type of arrangement.

That's been the case in places that didn't officially shut down.

Be online, get a few things done, but that's it.

Today is the last meaningful day of the quarter.

I’m not taking off because I did a week in Ireland over the summer and have been sporadically using PTO. Also, my thought is why use PTO when there’s not much going on?

Exactly the same. I use it as a time to get everything in order and make sure I’m up to date.

Not bad. Is Christmas Eve a statutory/mandated holiday where you are?

Minnesota so statutory. Our company is amazing for benefits though. Two months off a year, all benefits including 401k day 1, one Friday a month in the summer off on top of that to name a few. Big reason im still here are the people, products, but very much so the benefits.

That's amazing for any company, but especially in the US.
No wonder Minnesota is known as the State of Nice

Only get the stats off. However, being a BDR I already talked to my Founder and we both agree it makes sense to build out our contact data until after Jan 1st (currently a manual/time-consuming process).

No, but I am planning to take the week off between Christmas and New Year’s, for the most part

I've always saved days to do that, if there wasn't a shutdown.
It's nice to have the solid week off.

I’m just coming off a full 5 days of budgeting, planning and investor ring kissing. Going to go hard through next week and head directly into a coma the last week of the year. Ain’t quite done yet.

I live for christmas shutdown my previous employer had an annual target and as soon as it was hit we had a company "go home" some years it got hit on new years even others we were out by the 8th of december only annoying thing was management made the big hitters hold back their EOY whoppers until the rest of us hit the goal as a final hurrah

Had to use floating holidays to get off the rest of next week, we only get Christmas Day off and a half day the day before a holiday.

we don't come to a full stop but more or less we stop the most important tasks in marketing and sales. DevOps will continue to work though
