Comp Review Question

Pretty straightforward here but hoping to get some feedback from the community.

In the spring, my company will do its bi-annual performance review for tenured reps.

Since I was promoted from SDR to AE in Feb '22, I got a pretty low-end Base and Variable because of the comp jump from SDR to AE.

However, my RVP realizes that and said it's a top priority for him to get me a much higher base+variable comp plan when the time comes.

Our FY just ended and our quotas are, of course, going up. From my "ramping" quota to a full quota It's basically double what I had as a ramping rep... Further diluting my sales-to-commissions ratios... Of course, there's also a shitty economy and inflation to blame.

I'm wondering what kind of a base / variable increase is reasonable to ask for when considering the above.

If it helps, I'm currently 85/85 hoping to get 100/100 which would be a 15% increase.

@TheColdestColdCall- Check out the Salaries pages (left side of your screen, bottommost tab).

If you find your company there, I'm sure you'd be able to get your hands on what fair compensation looks like for salespeople in your company.

If you can't find it, and already have a number ready (15%), I'd suggest you double it and pitch it to your RVP. The worst thing that can happen is they'd say No. The best thing that can happen is you'd get 30%.

The not-so-best scenario would be around 20-25% which is still higher than 15%.

See? Now you have a target. And that's better than 100/100!

I would continue to talk to the boss about what he means by a higher base. I would look at Repvue to see what other AEs are making and use it as a reference.

I mean, sounds reasonable to me. In fact, I'd ask for more and be happy with the 100/100 if that's what they can offer.

Two things to consider:
Do your numbers reflect excellent performance, so you can point to that as a good reason to give you a higher OTE?
Can you ask your RVP what he means by "much higher" and what he thinks is reasonable? He may surprise you.

Great points here.

While I didn't hit 100%, I did 87% of my ramping number and closed the largest deal in our segment. I'm also one of the most active on team calls, slacks, etc etc - All of which I think is fueling his confidence in asking for more for me.

I will try him on what he's thinking when the time comes!!

Sometimes it's better to know what he's thinking before you tip your hand. Good luck to you! Looking forward to a positive update.

Good thing I kept reading. Have them reveal their hand first is exactly what I was thinking. Keep us update.

What is annual quota? a good rule of thumb is take home 20-25% of what you sell on average so if quota is 800-1 million 200-225 OTE is very realistic.

So quota isnโ€™t official yet but my boss said it should be between 700-900. 800 is likely the number.
