Company announcing layoffs this month

Can't say I'm surprised by this. I'm not on the list apparently, but as you all know, some tech companies are disproportionately being affected atm and there's ripples to it.

I recently got promoted, but I'm likely safe.. "Likely". However, amidst all the layoffs, what are some things I/we can prepare for?

I do my due diligence and go above and beyond in my current role and have been told so by my directors, but market correction is a market correction which is out of my control. Any thoughts/advice on how to prepare ourselves/be proactive in the current climate?

My company has done layoffs too. I like my role a lot so I am not going to leave to play it safe, since I know anywhere I go in tech there is a chance for layoffs.

What I am doing is cutting back as much as I can and build up the savings account. Really dialing it back on going out to eat, bars, and coffee.

hopefully you dont have to ride that out too long - Q1 is just around the corner which is a fresh start for many companies

yikes. thats tough. i cant imagine what that anxiety is like.

When you make it through the layoffs, im sure life might be a little crazy at work, less ppl probably the same amount of work.

So be prepared for that, also i think mentally just remembering that everyone is most likely on edge haha.

Good to know you are safe. I have been in that spot before. You might want to stick around but as you correctly mentioned market correction is market correction, always better to prep in advance

Always keep your resume up to date, network with previous coworkers and keep up with them just in case. That's the one thing I wish I did when I got laid off. Lay offs suck. Hopefully you're safe! Keep us updated

Hoping for the best for you. Others have pointed out that keeping the resume updated, and cutting back a bit on "extras" to make sure you're as financially prepared as you can be will be good.

Survivor guilt can also be a factor - be prepared, if you've not been through this before. If you do lose a good friend/colleague, you can make sure you've provided a reference for them, and help network.

My company did too. And it's so so so depressing for some reason. And it's stressful. Even when I am not in the list today, who's to guarantee what's there tomorrow ? I don't like uncertainty. But I guess it's the way of life now.

Never turn down a recruiter. One of my favorite managers told me he always takes interview just to stay on top of his game. He’s still been with that same company over 8 years now

Make sure you have 6 months worth of living expenses in a non-retirement account that can be accessed in a pinch if needed. Keep your resume up-to-date. Network your ass off.

Every company seems to be “afraid of a recession” even though by some metrics it’s already happening. Additionally all these layoffs will contribute to an economic downturn. TLDR; we’re fucked
