Company Loyalty

Hey Savages,

So, for that Job loyalty concern some companies may have to stay with em for an X no. of years to prove your loyal to the business and to whom gave you that current job opportunity.

I understand that most of you may think that's always OK to leave whenever a better opportunity shows up and let go that meaningless loyalty thing that they're trying to make propaganda about and The We're One Family Stuff, I get it.

But what if I left, and that better job offer became with my ex employer I've already stayed with for no. of years already, would most of employers resist rejoining the company again for not being loyal as they say or just welcome you back for having the required experience and job working environment awareness .

My current role is with the company that acquired one of my previous companies. The CEO of the previous company is now a different executive at the company that acquired us, and he hired me back because he knows what I am capable of.

That said, I have never rejoined another company that I have left. Mostly because I havenโ€™t wanted to go back to work for the teams that I felt werenโ€™t meeting my needs. Itโ€™s not always about money, but lack of strategic vision or the capability to execute. More money or a bigger title doesnโ€™t keep me nor would it attract me back.

There is a study that states that rejoiners become very loyal and even better employees. Can't find it right away but I was given it in unio when doing an HR class

I have been with and seen enough companies which one day say Weโ€™re all Family and the next layoff a ton of people to know that loyalty is a 1-way street.

The benefit to sticking around for a while with any given company is to demonstrate that you can tough things out over the long haul. And that while a 10-20% base pay increase may seem great, if it comes with a 40-50% increase in risk or job insecurity itโ€™s just not worth it.

Hope that answers your inquiry.

Do NOT be loyal to a company. Always do whatโ€™s best for you. They wonโ€™t have loyalty when they have to make layoffs. Here is how I look at itโ€ฆ

If you passed away tomorrow, people at your company would be sad, maybe even emotional. Some might miss you and even attend your funeral. You know what they would do then? Put in a req to look for someone to fill your position. They would be moved on from you in weeks.

I have stayed longer at places because I was loyal to certain people, but even some of those people who I thought had my back were weird after I left.

ALWAYS DO WHATS BEST FOR YOU. And donโ€™t think twice

Loyalty shmoyalty... loyalty is usually given to a particular person or supervisor of said company, and that's all fine and dandy until that person leaves for whatever reason. IMO, nobody cares or even has a concept of what loyalty means anymore. It's a dinosaur concept.

Loyalty doesn't exist, and I do not look back. I'm not going in that direction.

If a company cannot be loyal, do I want to be โ€” no? Itโ€™s all about what I feel is right for me, my career, my lifeโ€ฆ.

Every job that I left voluntarily, the reason I left was because they did not have the career progression I was looking for. Money has a part to play in that, but it's not the whole thing. My current company doesn't offer that, big reason I'm trying to leave.

I don't see anything inherently wrong with going back to work for a previous employer. I just haven't worked anywhere that I would choose to return to.

If you're good at your job and leave on good terms, I think you can 99% of the time go back. Have seen many people leave a company for 1-2 years then go back to the old one for a better title, territory, pay etc. --> I also wouldn't have a frame of mind that you need to prove loyalty to a company, have they ever proved loyalty to you?

Clearly, your years at the previous justified the return trip. They'll be calling it a big win should you return.

My thought is almost always that loyalty has to be a two-way street. If you get an offer, give your current company a chance to match it. However, if you got an offer you likely interviewed, which means you felt that something was offer to begin with.

I am loyal to myself and my personal goals first and foremost. If a company isn't aligning and I cannot see it aligning in the mid term, I'm looking for a bigger paycheck and a firm that could.

Companies are loyal first and foremost to their bottom line first and foremost. For all the talk about triple bottom line and other fluff, they will not hesitate to cut bait should it serve them.

These two aren't necessarily at odds with each other but unfortunately tend to be for a lot of people.

Agree with others that the concept of company loyalty is a relic of the past

Boomerang. Completely acceptable.

If the culture shifts negatively when you go back, itโ€™s likely on them.

the question should not be about your leaving a company, but more about how you left the company. WAY too many people love to burn the place down on their way out. bash their leaders, complain about executives' faults, disparage delivery, etc. when leaving a company, understand that it is a small world and our paths are bound to cross again. be grateful for what you learned, be it good or bad, you have learned and that can make you better.
Be courteous no matter what. it will only make you a better person and keep doors open for the future.
