Do you sustain several commission-based jobs at once?

Hey SaleSlayers,

I work in recruitment services sales and, lately, my friend asked me to sales his consulting services on a commission only basis. I know, sounds poor - only commission based, but it means that there will be no targets. I just have to generate meetings for him and I will get % if he close the client.

Do you guys work like that? Is it possible to just diversify your income by having a few products/services you sale on commission? In IT, especially software development, it is common to work for few projects at once (of course the performance is not prime but they get more than one paycheck).

Love to hear from someone who tried it and how it turned out. The worst thing abou this is to be productive and have enough time in a week to work for both projects.

Do you have any side sales gigs apart of your 9-5?

I value my personal time far too much to consider this. Best of luck to those of you who give it a shot.

If taking on a second will truly not impact the first/primary job, then go for it. But adding another revenue stream might make you half ass both

For those that do it, is it 2 full time jobs or one part time?

One can sustain multiple commission based jobs. But they ideally should be 60-40. 60% of the day should go into the core job that needs you to give your 100%. The remaining 40% to the side hustle. It can't be 50-50.

It could get chaotic, so you can spend a weekend or two to sort out what needs to be done where, and when.

I love the idea of it but dont think it'd be fair to my partner to take up more of the little free time we have together. Maybe one day

One job is enough for me. My secondary income can be gambling

You can but I think you should pick one to focus on where you treat very serious, the secondary one should be treated serious but as a side gig not the main gig

my opinion has always been that I don't have a cap on commission in my full time gig, so any effort I would put into a 2nd job I could just apply to my first to maximize my potential there instead.

i do not work like that. I need to have 1 job that i can put my full attention to.

i guess ive been lucky that ive been able to make good money doing that.

but if it works for you, then go for it!

any side gig stuff i have is not directly sales.
