Does anyone here earn over 500k a year?

After a year of making cold calls every. single. day, I am about to get promoted from SDR to AE.

I know I'm going to have to continue production as an AE but the top AEs at my company are making 150-200k so I know I will have to eventually leave for a company where deal sizes are larger and sales cycles are longer. The current benefits of working at my company is that it's easy, low stress and I can 'put in my time' and gain years on my resume while I build my side business. I have a small car rental business in La Paz, Mexico (near Cabo) that caters to long term rentals for visiting Americans and foreigners.

I am a recent engineering grad from a top University in the US, but I like sales and the idea of closing big deals excites me. Does anyone in this group clear over 500k a year in sales? I would love to know what your path looked like, and how much time you put in before you got to that level. I'd also love to know if your company is hiring ;-)

I currently have roughly 10% of my team who are over $500k earners.  I have one employee who's just smashing his year (perfect storm kind of shit) who will make $1 million this year ( which I've personally never done) -- pretty awesome though.

I was making over $500k but mostly due to RSU, and yes I was with Tesla for 7 years lol sometimes it’s really just Luck but having RSU or equity is another way to invest while at work.

If you include RSUs then yes I’ve made $500K+ in a year. If strictly OTE, close but not quite - normally average $300k depending on performance.

I attribute 100% of that to having an inflated salary because I live in SF and our COL is absurd. So in the end I probably net the same as a $250k earner in Texas for example.

500k is reasonable for top performing SaaS AE's working strategic and enterprise accounts. It takes time to get to that level. You have 1 year of SDR work under your belt which is a good start point but you wont be making 500k a year out of the box.

Put in your time, get to 100k then 150k, then 200k etc. Half a million a year is a number, be ready to close 5+ million a year in business to get to that level.

Gotta be realistic.... You won't make half a million dollars in a great year - in most industries/at most companies. Look into stats on "Top 5% earners in the US." Going to be under...

Since your a new AE, I would focus on just getting to 6 figures..... Based on your degree, might be worth looking into Sales Engineer roles for a bump in $$$ while still being involved in sales.

The Social Dilemma is a solid documentary. +1 on the Fyre Fest documentary. And always Community if you want to laugh.
