Ever built such great rapport with a prospect or client that you actually became good friends?

I've become close acquaintances with a few prospects before, right there on the cusp of friendship but never really gotten close enough to a prospect or client that I would consider them a friend.

I've met up with them for non business related lunches and what not when they were in town or when I happened to be where they were but being totally honest there was always an ulterior motive there in maintaining a good relationship either for personal professional gain or just to keep the business relationship solid.

Curios if a business relationship with someone you've sold to evolved into what you might consider a decent friendship.

I referred my old customers GF to work at my old company. He used to call me randomly just to complain about his boss. Most of my accounts are older though - I get in great terms but I’m 27 selling to 50+ year olds so not really considering any of them “friends”.

You should reconsider making old friends. Could get you some sweet discounts on Life Alert and early bird specials at restaurants.

No. I don’t even have any real friends in real life. No way a client could grow to love me. :(

Yes I actually have ex clients that are some of the best friends I've made in life. They almost killed me once because they can drink like you wouldn't believe, but I love em anyway.

I officiated the wedding of someone I met through work. Wasn't a prospect, but was a rep for a manufacturer we used for a time. We golfed a lot together and got pretty close, then he changes jobs but we kept the routine. Before you knew it we were pretty close and I was officiating a wedding!!

Not to the point to say we're close friends, but decent friendship? yeah, a few of them. Most recently this guy we've been working with, he's the kind of person that will always try and make you laugh, but dead serious when it comes to business. Definitely a cool guy!

Absolutely have friends that were/are customers. All started as customers. Often it’s good when they change positions. Easier sell.

Also good to have for professional references or even to score a job at their company

I was recently a reference for one of these folks during their job switch. Business is coming soon 🙂

Happens a lot! If the prospect is cool, friendly and open to friendship, I am too!

Hell yeah - I got drinking buddies around the country because of it.

Idk if I call them friends, but I think to hit them up when I'm local

I haven't personally, but I've seen reps get on text message level with quite a few clients and prospects.

Yes I’ve got a couple of clients from my old company who I’m still friends with today and still catch up from time to time

I brought on a customer at my previous org and we're about to launch a POC of the offering at my new company with the same champion. He also moved orgs so he's brokered an intro for me at two separate places now. We routinely do zoom happy hours and text about football, gaming, etc. He's my boy.

You've built rapport, took them through your value proposition, scheduled follow-ups, everything feels great. Now it's decision time and.... GHOSTED... How do you recapture their attention and when is it time to hit them with a break-up email?
