Giving you time back

@GeneralCorp hit another one out of the park.

Reading through the comments there was this...  "I had a tiny stint with someone who would speak for 42 minutes straight in a 30 minutes meeting and gave me 3 minutes to add my perspective."

I'm currently dealing with a leader who a) is late to absolutely everything and b) will do what's described above on top of that.

My ask to all of you:  Who's experienced this? and how did you deal with it?

Rambo is it someone in a high position then yours, if so, there is not much you can do. If they are not pull them to the side after the meeting and let them know how you feel about the situation.

I have dealt with this situation before, since I couldn't control the situation I completely look as though I was interested when I really wasn't. At the same time thinking of how to achieve the goals of my next incentive.

Yeah, maybe out of your hands. It’s tricky to navigate conversations at that level without having issues. Deep breaths and put a buffer zone in your calendar so you have time after the pearls of wisdom are delivered to get your head straight. Or - you can have a “hard stop” deliberately, with a customer, so you can stop at the scheduled time.

I can navigate the hard stop on a lot of things, but when dude routinely shows up 15 minutes late to his own meeting I’m at a loss. They report direct to CEO so I’d hope there’d be more accountability.

Yup.
Unfortunately if it's your CSO you're just going to have to ride it out, and plan accordingly when scheduling meetings that follow ones with him. Either avoid them or engineer them so you have to leave.
Not much else you can do.

Someone's always grabbing attention from the C-levels. And if he's late because HIS boss was on a call with him and wouldn't get off, then not much you can do. Sorry.

Rambo, I’ve been there. -Still totally perplexed by it. I wish I had anything more to offer than empathy. I got to a point when I would add CEO to the meeting separately and book him 15 minutes early. If he did show up only 10 minutes late to his invited time I’d just ask for his patience - “let’s give him 5 more minutes.”
I’d take the heat if he showed up earlier than that.

“My bad, I crossed up the invite. But while I’ve got you, here’s a stupid question that should make you feel important.”

Full C Suite ego syndrome. Can’t fix it

He didn't... although it wasn't gonna be long. He was not an idiot... just a Montana sized sense of himself. And... a total egghead dev dude. The shit we run into in these travels..

Thank God..my company has a semi annual survey about your manager including both points of weakness and strength they have in addition to that incredible option to see whether you're happy to proceed your journey with them or perhaps to consider another partner.
And as long as you're good with your numbers and requested a change it is to be fulfilled most of times.
So ,recommend you to check if you have such an option or at least to sit down with them to share your POV and if they can do anything about it and relate it to how it would help in terms of enhancing your performance and as a last resort try speak up to their senior and see if they can help to convey your feedback to them to see if they may change!

Sounds awesome. Is your feedback given anonymously?

Definitely for him, but for his seniors that would be in charge of the move.

We do 360 feedback once a year. It’s anonymous but teams are so small that if you know your team well enough it’s easy to know who submitted what just based on how they write.

I C,tbh I wouldn't take it personally if I was the manager though that the team member asked for my replacement particularly, if I was supportive enough to him.
My feedback to it would be it's good for both he and I that would allow him to feel more comfortable with someone else and for the others who decided to stay and believe in me on my team would consider that as a new boost to kill those numbers as a great team with full harmony!

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
I have dealt (am dealing) with people like that.

2 options:
(1) just not include that person as much as possible in client conversations.
Or
(2) over coach that individual on what they say and tell them not to share more/less than that amount.

Obviously there is no good option here. Just do you best and don’t be afraid to interrupt.

Develop a template to brief your cso on the account. Include a “questions to ask” section filled with open ended questions. Sandwich it between other bits of info. Hopefully he’ll get the hint.

I always cut meetings short. It’s my way of showing I know their time is more valuable than my bs

Unfortunately I have dealt with this, I basically had to say it’s unacceptable with client meetings but couldn’t get the internal meetings start at the right tome

I had a boss like this. Just talked the entire time in a leadership meeting and then regurgitated the exact same in an all hands, weekly.

We all just pretended to work. “Leaders” like this are usually always scam artists.
