Have you used a headhunter?

Just curious if many people in the sales industry have utilized a head hunter. Also very curious if anyone has any insight on how the process works or who they would recommend

No marketing, mayo isn't an MQL
I've engaged external recruiters/head hunters in all of my job searches.

The process varies depending on the recruiter, but typically you'll apply to one of their roles and then you'll have a phone screen where you chat through your experience and what you're looking for.

They'll then mention what roles they have that they think you might be interested in.

They'll then put your CV forward to the relevant company and organise the process going forward.

Some headhunters/recruiters will offer more insight as to what the hiring manager is looking for i.e that secret sauce

If all goes well they'll get paid a fat commish on a successful hire. They also get paid typically based on your comp, so its good to be truthful with them about the real number you're looking for.

Mileage may vary, just my experience.

Can't recommend anyone in the states, but a quick google search/linkedin search will bring up a few.

100% agree. I was a sales recruiter for a few years and the insights we can provide really help in the process

I have not. I have spoken with a few recruiters that reached out to me via LinkedIn, but the jobs weren't anything I was interested in.

Agency recruiters are very tricky, some are real bad and will throw you to any company hoping you stick and others are great at matching what you’re looking for with companies that you are a good fit for. You’ll know when you find the good ones but I’ve had some great jobs because of agency recruiters.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Yeah, I've found that you need to EXTREMELY picky with them though. Think about everything you want to see. For instance, if you want a CEO who is a little bit more hands off, you need to know that. Do you hate open offices? Those things all matter.

It's really hit or miss if you're looking through linkedin sales recruiters.
I have not had luck yet. But also I'm not really looking hard.

Depends who you're targeting, I know big companies try to headhunt themselves on LinkedIn as well as outsourcing it to an external agent.

I’m one, AMA You’ll be limited to the companies that they have a relationship with, so make sure to do your own searching too. The headhunter will generally get a fee from the company of about 10-30% of your base or OTE depending on how well they negotiated/how deep the firm’s pockets are

What would you recommend as the best way to find one? Currently in a tech sales role TC 120k but feel like I am at the ceiling for this company after 4 years (unless i move to management, which is a pay cut) and almost entirely vested so feel like I need something new!

Go on LinkedIn and people search “sales recruiter” AND “SaaS” in your country. There’s 1100 in the US. Find the highest ranking people on the first 5 pages and connect with them. If your profile is up to date then they’ll call/message you within a day

I have and am very indifferent on the experience. I wouldn’t have found my company had I not gone through them, but I didn’t get any coaching, interview help, etc. that made the process any easier, if that makes sense.
