Headed 'Cross the pond

Well Savages... the world is on fire, so now seems like an appropriate time to go on international vacation. Headed to London this week for 12 days and would appreciate any suggestions for:

  • Tourist traps
  • Sights to see
  • Food to eat
  • Brothels to.... broth?
  • Places to rent video tapes

You get it...

Drop suggestions below or just yell at me in a foreign language.

Either way, cherrio!

Speaking of @LordOfWar, bring him back here when you find him would you? Hes gone dark on us.

UPDATE: CAN CONFIRM, London is shit. We stayed two nights and then got TF outta there. Spent the rest of the week in Leeds, Manchester and Bournemouth. WAY BETTER.

Had to learn that lesson the hard way lol.

You were all over - Leeds and Manchester then all the way down to Bournemouth? The south/southwest coast is the best IMO.

Love it, my advice is dont just buy the cheapest tickets. Dont want to run into any hooligans or do and have an experience of a real match.

Those games should be crazy to avoid relegation too

O also, if staying in London, just take a train from the airport. So easy. And use cabs not Uber. They were way cheaper on my last visit.

Sounds like you are headed to leeds as well?

Few things to do there (or nearby):

-if you are into beer there is dozens of great microbreweries to crawl
- Theakston's brewery (proper old school english countryside)
- Leeds city center has some great food spots and arcades
- visit york
- have a proper donner kebab

Tourist traps: Tower of London - go when it opens, get in line immediately for the Crown Jewels, then do the rest (armory, etc). See the Ravens.
Windsor Castle: take the train to Windsor, get in line for the dollhouse first thing (even if you don't like dollhouses, it is, just, wow). Make sure you go into St. George's Chapel and accidentally step on Henry VIII's tombstone.
Buckingham Palace/Kings Guard.
St Paul's Cathedral and climb up to the top - yes, it's a lot of stairs but OMG.
Westminster Abbey - line moves faster than it looks, and it's an amazing building.
Covent Garden - some of the best street performers you'll ever see, plus a fairly amazing Apple store mixed into some very old buildings.
Ride the Rail Mail at the Postal Museum.
British Museum is FREE and: Rosetta Stone + Cleopatra's mummy are there. Go early before all the school children get there for their tours.
Wimbledon - there may not be any matches, but there is an impressive museum, plus you can visit Centre Court.

Parks: Hyde Park, Regents Park - nice for strolls, the London Zoo, horses at Hyde Park, Diana's memorial.

Walk across Lambeth Bridge, Westminster Bridge, Tower Bridge and London Bridge (if you must). These are places that show up in countless movies. Vauxhall Bridge is across from MI-5, which is not blown up as Bond movies would have you believe.

Take the Tube everywhere - cabs are cripplingly expensive, though essential when the Tube inexplicably shuts down in the evening and you have to navigate which lines are still open. Get your Oyster card and use it!

You said the magic words: Tourist Trap. Got my attention!

I'll add comfortable shoes to the list - it's a walking/public transit kind of city. I found the Tube got us just about everywhere. I'm only sorry I can't loan you my human compass (my teen boy) who is a complete whiz at navigating any subway/transit system.

Oh - look for the Roman wall from the city of Londinium when you're in the Tower area. I'm always awed at the absolute age of the city. Have a GREAT time!

Go to Harrods just to people watch the ultra rich trying to look middle class. The Egyptian staircase.

Drinks at Dukes. You will thank me. They have a 2 drink limit. You will leave legless.

If you're traveling with your significant other - an espresso martini at the Savoy.

Cheapest river cruise - start or end at tower of London/Parliament and take the public transit seabus(or whatever it's called).

Walk around St James Park.

Find a Weatherspoon. It's the Chilis of London. Cheap drinks and a chain - locals will be friendly and you won't be buying 12 pound pints like the other pubs.

And finally... Gordon's Wine Bar+44 20 7930 1408 https://maps.app.goo.gl/xRvAXNcprAcYdmiL9
Ask to sit in the cave. This is my favorite secret spot in London. Ever. Do not miss.
