How bad will I burn the bridge?

What would you guys do?

If you get an offer at a company and you negotiate a higher salary and they accept... but after you do accept a week or 2 later you decide you dont want that role anymore even after you have already accepted.

Only reason why you dont want that role anymore is because of a better opportunity at another company.

What are your thoughts?

yes you will probably burn that bridge.....to the ground

But who cares?ย

If you got a better opportunity else where then take it.ย

Companies fire you with no notice, you can go get the best offer you can get.ย

Tell them exactly that. It's not that companies don't know this happens. You might just get even a better offer from them.

If company 1 is incapable of understanding that they simply lost a bidding war and there is nothing personal than who cares?

Logical people don't expect other people to pick something that is lesser than.

Even if you started working for a week and took another job because it was a better opportunity. That's the name of the game.

Your loyalty is to yourself and the people who depend on you.

It never should have been an expectation in the first place. It's put us in strange situations now where people feel like they need to pass up on career-changing opportunities so as not to seem "disloyal".ย

The fact of the matter is a company should focus on what is best for the company and an individual should focus on what is best for them. When those aims align, you find yourself in an awesome situation. You grow, you perform better, it's all rainbows and unicorns.

The second it isn't the case companies will cut loose any "loyal" employee so as to remain or become successful, employees should too.

If you havenโ€™t started, itโ€™s only a minor burn.
If you actually started, probably a major burn.
You do you.

It's not ideal, but it happens.ย  ย You can definitely let them know you have received a better offer, and you have to respectfully retract your acceptance.ย  ย  Remain professional, but take care of yourself.

Congratulations on receiving two good offers!

Donโ€™t burn any bridges. Sales is a small world and you never know when you might need them. Your reputation is all you have

Yes I dont want to burn bridges but at the same time, I dont want to pass up on a better salary opportunity if it was offered to me.

Of course, itโ€™s definitely the opposite of rock and a hard place. If You complement the rejected company and people and processes as you leave the damage may be reduced. Itโ€™s a seekers market out there
