How did you get into sales?

I grew up super poor so when elementary schools made you go door to door... well that was me... EVERY TIME. 

All I have to do is get 40 people to buy this coupon book and I get an Xbox? Haro BMX bike? 

I was hooked. I've never looked back.

I started with the good ole magazine subs. then it turned into cookie dough and popcorn. X% of the revenue went towards my class trip. let's just say my parents never had to pay a dime out of pocket for any of my trips. I still hold all of the records for the most x sold. one year was candy bars. Average student would sell 1 box during the timeframe... I sold 53 AND I was selling the candy bars to the kids that were trying to sell their own lmao!!!

Haha right! I forgot about cookie dough. For our class trips if you did X sales you also got a subway packed lunch. Man I miss those days.

No way in hell. I was a GS lifer, but we were not in the wealthy part of town, and in fact, lived in an area virtually infested with serial killers (how we all survived childhood remains a mystery). Unlikely to buy mass quantities of anything, tbh, and parents unable to buy more than a box or two.

That girl who set up a stand near a cannabis dispensary, though - legend!

I got my start cold calling by doing fundraising for my university's telefund. Ended up meeting a friend through a very roundabout mutual contact who worked for a startup in the nearby major city. Once graduation came up, I told him I needed a job. He said he could get me one.

Thus started my long and sordid startup love affair.

Grew up in it. When family runs sales for Fortune 500, you just see it all around you.

I went the finance route, then got board/exhausted as I can make almost as much with less risk in the tech world. It was an easy lateral.
