For my current job, 1 app. for me to get into sales 5 years ago... about 27-30. I was clueless on what to look for, so I sprayed the canvas.
Even 27 isn't the worst for getting started.
I've applied to probably 80 different jobs in the past 2 months and have 0 call backs. The only interviews have come from recruiters reaching out to me and even then I didn't get past the 1st round. This has never happened before. Maybe I'm blacklisted or something.

It kinda depends for me. A year ago, I applied to more than 20 places for sure maybe even 50 and got 2 solid offers. 4 Months later they fired me outta nowhere, but I was being recruited by another company during that same week so I had a job by the follow ing Tuesday. To 7 months later to being laid off because of lack of funding and fundraisers pulling out to applying to maybe 10 places and had a job within a week. IDK, twas a crazy year my friend.
Both jobs I got was from a recruiter, but it was during the time when hiring was crazy

Oh 100%, I knew during "War on Talent" it was my time to upgrade companies
I had to fill out an application after I got the offer because it was some check box item, but this last time around, and the time before, I was recruited.
I did have to really grind it out in 2001/early 2002, though. I don't remember how many applications I submitted exactly, but it was a lot, and it was rough going.

I haven’t applied for many months now and I certainly don’t use more than 20 apps
My first tech job? Like 20 apps. Then after that? Max 3 and this last time 1.
When I was trying to break into SaaS, I probably applied to 100 places and only got a handful of interviews and 3 offers out of that.
Now, my inbox is flooded with recruiters.

Recruiters just have reached out for past 3 years or so, no need to apply 😅
I'm currently well beyond 100 at this point.
