How to Cold Call the Owner if you have sent the Linkedin Message

Hey everyone,

I'm not asking for direct assistance with this question. I'd love to figure it out and approach it creatively once I understand what works. Does anyone have suggestions or ideas on where I can find resources on how to reach out to a prospect after sending a direct message, especially if I didn't receive a response or if I did get a response?

This is the kind of scenario I'm dealing with.

Could you please share any relevant articles or videos?

I am learning jeremy miner type of tonality but I am not sure what's the best approach in those cases

Thanks so much in advance!

Hey (customer name), this is (my name) from (my company), glad I was able to get a hold of you. Reason for my call is that I've been working with local (specific industry) companies such as (name drop current clients) to help them with (my company's ROI selling points), and I thought it might be beneficial to have a conversation about potentially partnering with (customer company) to do something similar. I sent over a LI message a few days ago, but wanted to see if there was a day in the next couple weeks that we could have a quick chat.

Thank you for your suggestion,Phillip. Do you think the type "curiosity" needs to be applied for this type of follow-up call? I don't want to sound too salesy from the very beginning of the conversation so I am a bit confused about what should I choose

Of course. Where I see success is having the cadence and tone laser focused around it being conversational as opposed to a pitch. I present it as a genuine curiosity and I want to learn about the intricacies of your organization. It's all about this call being a benefit for THEM, not for me.
"Hey, in this industry, we've seen a lot of your peers struggle with XYZ hurdles and we were able to help them overcome them by doing ABC. If you are seeing similar hurdles in your org, do you think it would be worth having a conversation?"

My point of the call to schedule a sales call. ( I am doing lead gen/facebook ads + crm system)

Thank you a lot Phillip, do you have any idea how to handle the question "

what is it regarding?" from a gatekeeper?

I have used an explanation of service(I will never use a script that is related to pitch with gatekeeper again).I have also used a saying that it is regarding personal stuff.
I tried to also ,manipulate that I had a conversation long time ago (owners are angry from that)

If it's a gatekeeper, you're probably not going to get patched through to a CEO anyways, so use them to gather information, so when you finally do get the CEO to pick up a call, you have relevant info.
I'm in IT/Cybersecurity, so I'll fish for things like who do they reach out to when their computer/internet/email goes down. Have they gone through cybersecurity training recently? Do they have MFA enabled on their devices? Has the organization rolled out any new software for them to use?

When I get the CTO on the phone, I can bake this info into my pitch, so I'm now not just some asshole sales guy calling, but I'm reaching out about specific things particular to THEIR organization, making me more of an asset.

"Hey, I spoke to someone in your organization recently and they mentioned that you folks just rolled out a new ERP system. How'd that go? I know that can be a pretty daunting task with a lot of potential disruption in day-to-day processes. We actually just helped (same industry company) go through an ERP implementation after they ran into hurdles around integration with other tools, data silos, inaccurate business analytics, and adoption from their employees. Would it beneficial to explore your ERP situation together and see if we can help configure, train, implement, etc?"

Hope this all makes sense. Happy to answer any questions.

THANKS for the value bomb !
I am in a home improvement niche, so do you think your 1st example of opening will be fine? From your experience, this type of opening is applicable for most of the niches?

(I am not asking this for the fact that I will just steal it and use it, I am always trying to modify this kind of stuff)

Phillip,I haven't heard from you as you are probably busy, but thanks anyway for your clarifications!

I would be also very happy if you would answer the last question.

And please give me suggestions for book/yt channels of cold calling.
What do you think about fanatical prospecting,Cold Calling Techniques , other stuff?

If you're referring to timeline, one of our biggest objections is "I'm too busy", so we usually target a few weeks to a couple months (we have a pretty long sales cycle anyways), so that we can pinpoint a day where they've got an opening.

He is a huge douche and super annoying. He wouldnโ€™t leave me alone and was sending dumb memes and bullshit like a child. Jeremy Miner is a joke.

My comment started with downvotes. So his grease of ALPHA YOUR PROSPECTS, seems to land with some folks here.

Glad Iโ€™m not alone.

There are many parts of the sales process I suck at. I suck at emailing. I am pretty bad at LinkedIn. My demos arenโ€™t great. But I am an excellent cold caller.

Jeremy miner has some insightful points, but most of the shit heโ€™s peddling is meaningless especially because outreach will depend a lot on the industry you are in. For most, the reason why cold calling works is less about how good you are and more about the amount that you do cold call. So, while tonality is a factor, much more important to just pick up the phone and roll with it rather than talking in a cutesy little voice.

Also, his tonality sucks but maybe thatโ€™s just me.

This how I rank them: Tonality-Jordan Belfort, objections - Jeremy Miner, Closing - Brad Lea. It does depend on the industry a lot, bc if youโ€™re selling cars you should just listen to Grant Cardone. I think the key with these sales gurus/influencers itโ€™s listening to all of them and find a style you like and thatโ€™s natural for you and going that direction. For me itโ€™s a mix between Jeremy miner and Ryan Serhant

Thanks for the clarification dude! I am in the home improvement niche, but I am confused about which type of tonality should I choose. A lot of people say that I need to be boring / some say I need to be friendly.
What is your advice?

You should be more comfortable calling than sending DM's.

I know I am ready to learn any kind of stuff that is needed. But as far as my statistics show - 1. it is very hard to get past through gatekeeper with my experience. 2. Even if I will get a chance to pass the gatekeeper, the owners are busy / on the job.
3. Skills + scripts aren't the best
My cold call skills and scripts obviously need to be improved. That's why I want to try message + call.

Can you please suggest people whom should I look up to?
I am pretty sure that my tonality needs to be changed

In my past copier sales life, we were always told to call for the person as if we knew them and if the gatekeeper gave questions or issues just say that it involved a pending financial issue that you need to resolve.
Sure it wasn't always great when they found out it was BS but I did get through a few half assed GKs to the DM and was able to eventually pitch or set a time to stop in.

last time when I lied to the gatekeeper that I had a conversation, the owner hung up as he was very angry
Do you have any suggestion when the gatekeeper asks what is regarding?

It is like for me the hardest objection to handle

You just have to get through them and get over that most won't like you regardless. It's a numbers game and if you assume rejection but try anyways you'll be in a better boat.
It never hurts to let people know you are just trying to do your job if they start getting emotional.
