If you had pick one topic to be trained on out of this list, which one would it be?

Here's the deal: as a rep I used to get a lot of training but I rarely got to pick what I wanted to learn. It was mostly qualification, forecasting, negotiation, etc. I went through 4 different sales methodologies and countless "how to deliver a killer presentation" training.

As a sales manager, not so much. I was given a bit more space to pick the training I wanted, but that really didn't mean I could go out and get trained on anything I thought would ultimately benefit my team, because of course there's a budget you can't go over.

If your company would say yes to one of these, as a rep or as a manager, but only one of them, which one would you pick?

DISCLAIMER: the list below is biased as I came up with it based on topics I hear some salespeople want to be trained on more often. Feel free to vote "other stuff" and add your own!

Which if these would you want to be trained on?

As an SDR, not letting the door close when I give my opener and ask for the meeting and then the prospect says โ€œNo Iโ€™m not interested, thanks *click*โ€. Iโ€™ve got solid expansion statements, but canโ€™t use them if I donโ€™t get a chance.

that's a good point, and sometimes it happens. It sounds like what you'd need (or benefit from) would around effectively engaging with people beyond your initial pitch. Somethign like that?

Exactly. Or maintaining engagement enough to get a real objection other than โ€œIโ€™m not interestedโ€. Not interested in what? Is a question I would like to ask sometimes.

Great! There's trainings for that for sure, just need to know what to search for. At one point, it's deep prospecting skills, at another, it's rapport building. You're right about keeping that engagement for enough time is a challenge!

Coaching for sure.

I went to a Jack Daly half day event a couple of years back and it was awesome. He's an energetic guy who is really good at conveying the important parts of sales coaching, but doesn't include all the fluff I see from a lot of other sales training events.

Love that kind of approach. I got introduced to coaching as a manager, after thinking what I did was actually coaching when it was in fact, something else. No names to it lol. I too believe it's a skill to be trained on, and to be honest, doesn't matter if you're a rep or a manager, it's never too early to begin training on that!

I'm very curious about this topic too. I recently attended a webinar on the neuroscience behind why people open videos (kinda rigged by vidyard, but there was real science there), and I loved it. Here's a report from the same people on "how buyers make decisions":ย  https://win.corporatevisions.com/rs/413-YED-439/images/Neuroscience-Digital-Content-IBB-Report.pdfย

Yes it was pretty good. But to be honest, the best part was internal people telling their fails and how they reacted to them. The main speaker was a bit to generic for my taste.

Yeah I can see that, I experienced it as well. At least it got people speaking up!
