In a creative rut

No, this isn't another thread about how to prospect or what emails work and what don't.

In the past I've always taken a very generic approach in my email prospecting, and it has worked very, very well for me. Recently my company has decided to refine our territories down to more specific segments though which drastically reduces my prospecting base.

Because of this, I am wanting to write up some more vertical-specific and job title specific email sequences to send out to get a little more prescriptive while prospecting instead of taking the shotgun approach.

Unfortunately I'm in a massive creative rut and struggling to come up with anything other than generic messaging though. How do you guys get the creative juices flowing when you need to go back to the drawing board and make some new content?

I'm not the most creative person to begin with but I've always been able to hold my own at least.

100%, you're probably just second guessing yourself. just vomit your ideas out, and then look at them a day or two later, use your cringemeter to adjust accordingly.

that's the problem is I'm struggling with even coming up with ideas to second guess. I set up a zoom with a couple people on my team to collaborate on it, hopefully that'll get me over this hump.

I was going to ask the same thing. Got a "partaking" pen I use before most work days and definitely after :D

I have no clue. I just always feel like complete garbage coming down. I've tried fresh, I've tried vapes, you name it. Everyone always says I'm crazy so I try again to prove them wrong lol

I try to skim a few industry news letters and steal some phrasing to apply to my outreach. I'm subscribed to the damn things, might as well make use of them.

I don't know if you need to be "creative", just think about what resonates with you. Do you respond to "a good deal" or "everyone else is doing it" or "be the first on your block to..." and then go with it. Be upfront with your pitch and your value.

if im trying to be creative i know i have to do something that is creatively stimulating. sometimes its listening to a specific type of music and writing things down, or listening to a podcast that just get my mind working, i normally get a few ideas that way.

Take a look at your prospect's LinkedIn profile and write specific hyper-personalized email cadences geared towards them. Maybe you went to the same school, worked at the same company, or maybe they posted something you found interesting that you could tie it back to in your email.

Take the show-me-you-know-me approach... quality over quantity every day of the week. (Do not try and sell anything in your first email.)

I've always gone with "hey this is _____, I work for _____. We do x, y, and z and for more than half of the fortune 10 and fortune 100. Let me know what part resonates with you and we can set up some time next week to talk more"

Weirdly enough, as generic and basic as it is, its always worked well for me. But I still want to give the more personal approach a shot.

I mean thats a good email for a shotgun approach.

I'd really try and work on getting to know your prospect a little better. Try and understand what pain they might be having / the problem they're trying to solve and drive that home.

Less talking about what you could do for them, or how big and bad your company is. Talk about what they might be going through and how you could help. (second email)

Meditate, take a walk outside, grab a shower, hit the gym... not in that order, use as needed. The key is to free your mind of the task at hand... then block time to deep think and the energy will flow.

on a serious note, think about different angles you can take. maybe try stepping away from that specific task for a bit, let your mind wander.
