I've been thinking a lot about the incentives of social media platforms. One thing I appreciate about Bravado is that we get paid "commission" for posting and commenting. Of course there are some low quality comments and posts, but I see less of this compared with typical social media platforms where creators are not paid from the company to post. I've also been pretty impressed with the Nostr protocol which is a platform where users can earn satoshis (a unit of Bitcoin) for their content, but instead of a company paying its users, the individual is zapped by other users of the protocol for creating quality content. It is up to a user of Nostr to decide what content deserves a zap. This decentralized model ensures that users are incentivized to create valuable content, and it also creates a sense of community where users can support each other by rewarding great content.
While these commission-based and user-rewarded systems have their advantages, there are also potential drawbacks to consider. For example, there may be concerns about users posting low-quality or spammy content just to earn rewards. As users of the platform we should be calling out this abuse when we see it. Nostr still has a lot of work to be done, but it does seem, in my personal experience, that this platform has come a long way since the very beginning.
I believe platforms and protocols like Bravado and Nostr are gaining popularity and providing a refreshing alternative to legacy social media platforms. With their unique incentives and community-driven models, these platforms have the potential to change the way we think about social media and create a more rewarding online environment. Curious if any other savages have thought about this and what they think about these built in incentives to post quality content? Good, bad, neutral?
