Is marketing doing a bad job?

I work at a company that relies solely on Google Ads and SM ads. Out of every 10 leads we generate, only 1 turns out to be someone from our industry.

That's frankly, not great numbers. It means we end up making 100 calls a day, maybe 50-60 connects and of those, only 3-4 turn out to be our intended audience.

Am I wrong to assume these are pathetic numbers? Or is this the case everywhere else? It's a huge efficiency blocker when you have to talk to a lot of unintended, unnecessary people. Is marketing doing a bad job?

Questions:
Who exactly is your audience? Do you not search for the lead on LinkedIn or Google first before calling? Do you get leads from company domain or free mails like Google.com/yahoo.com? Every company gets a lead dump from time to time but depends on a lot of factors to qualify them as well.
Need to understand a little more.

Seems like marketing is doing a horrible job. I’m selling digital marketing, mainly Google, SM, Paid etc etc.

80% both B2B and B2C start their journey on Google (pull marketing) tell them to make the strategy more up against your core audience. It’s not that hard. Many of my customers relay 100% on inbound with great success 🤝

Seems like something is way off at your marketing department / team.
