Layoffs are picking up speed

I've heard from a number of former colleagues about their companies laying off. I hate it for all the people getting laid off especially at the holidays. Good luck to all the savages out their just trying to survive.

It is shitty all around. I don't want this to be true but having lived it before I feel some of it may be based upon the company working to hit an EOY number. They could be looking at their operating costs and know they won't hit the topline number so they are cutting their operating expenses (us sales professionals) to hit bottom line number.

@Gastyany chance we could keep track of these companies that are laying people off and see how many of them are putting back up hiring requisitions at the start of 2023 in Q1?

It’s frustrating because a lot of these companies likely overhired based on VC support. In short, this seems sadly inevitable and those in higher roles suffer less, even if laid off.

It's insane! One of my customers from my last company announced today that they laid off 85% of their workforce. They've raised $900M in the last 5 years! Where the hell did the money go??

One of the catch twenty twos of being in sales. We make more money, but that means we're the most expensive piece of the budgeting pie.

Only other departments I see getting cut en masse are engineers (for the same reason, they're expensive) and recruiters (obvious reasons)

I think we are far from the end of this down cycle. But it won’t last forever. Stay focused on controlling what you can control, this includes applying to jobs if you are one of the unlucky ones.

every CRO that rubber stamped the CEOs or investor-board's "great idea" to overhire to "growth hack" revenue should be forced to never wear shoes and walk on random Legos for the rest of their lives. 9 women can't have a baby in a month. I don't know why these potatoes think having six reps at quota means if you add three more reps you'll have nine at quota. It's stupid.

It's getting bad. Seems to be execs looking to increase bonuses in a lot of situations. Also companies with shit spending problems and little to no cash on hand to weather a small storm

If you are the low person right now, have a mark or two on your HR record, and are reading the play you may be expandable, own it, and start readying your exit on your own terms. Q1 will be a reset for sure…. Get ahead of what will likely be a competitive and noisy job market.

My manager was laid off 2 weeks ago, the rest of the team is still here but it's weird she's gone since she built the US team. We're being managed by our CRO for now but probably going to start looking.
