Moving from Sales to BD?

I've long felt that I want to advance my career from pure sales into a more BD focused role. It's always been my impression that these folks lead less commission, new business to new business focused roles, and are much more driven by relationship growth and overarching strategic partnerships. This also seems like the natural pivot for sales people if they aren't trying to get into marketing or other roles that mean massive pay cuts.

Anyone here made the jump and have insights to share? I've only been in my sales career for 8 years, but I'm already angling at the best way to jump to something that will put less mileage on my heart and mental health, and have a real, meaningful impactful to a company (beyond just dollars and cents).

Open to any and all thoughts here.

I think it might be because people feel impervious to the threat of a cold call.

no,  business development functionality, not BDR / sales support.

If they know you're likely to call AND email them until you get a reply, they're more likely to reply... if you're not cold calling them, now's the time to try it!
