Many here aren't fans of small new start ups, so the answers will be interesting to see. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿฟ

For good reasons, most of them are usually crap and all it takes is a round of funding for your manager to go from bright smile sunny hero to miserable overbearing micromanager. I wish I had known earlier to avoid startups.

Not going to tell you the name of my company but we're small <50 but likely will be >50 in a couple of months. Company been around for 5 years or so and been bootstrapped from the beginning.

I love it. Most successful point in my career. I'll likely double my OTE by the end of the year.

Legal. It's a bitch and a half to figure out and it's almost all relationship based so until you know a few respected people in the space, it's a grind.

I work for a start-up and it has been my biggest passion, up until the past 1-2 years. We were purchased by a capital venture firm that aligns with our culture 0%. Turnover has been rampant. Unfavorable changes to pricing and terms have made our customers disgusted with us- rightfully so, as we changed outside of contract renewals and during Covid. I tried to block it out, but the business is pushing away customers.. ultimately diminishing my commission. Itโ€™s toxic. I still have a place in my heart for start-ups, but you never know who youโ€™ll be working for in the end. Just hope leadership finds a good fit when the time comes.

Joined a brand new startup about a month ago. <25 people. Early seed round. Left a massive global firm.

Itโ€™s a clusterfuck, and I love it.

With less than 50-100 people, we're going to dox ourselves if we name our employer.

I work for a company that has been around for ~15 years, was bootstrapped, but now recently has major funding and is experiencing serious growth. It's a fucking blast. I'm not a number, can see where I'm making an impact, and leadership actually cares about my input into some areas.

I find the "established startup" to be a better world than the brand new startup. They've proven their worth, have established processes, and at the 50(ish) size have enough resources to power a sales team. It depends a lot on where leadership focused time and money, but this has been my experience in the last 3 "startups" I've been a part of.

True! I just havenโ€™t heard as many people working at startups the past year compared to 5 years ago so Iโ€™m interested to see if there are still some good, smaller companies out there.

What industry/location/tech are you looking for? That might help narrow it down.
