Background: This is me jumping from one startup to the next and the next, like a true confused SDR. I took this last role for the better pay, and took my first role for the pay period. It's always been about the money, the last place was headed nowhere and I needed to jump, I thought this was a dope place, I got sold.
Story:
So as some of you may know, I began my journey on this platform bitching about a shitty windows computer and asking advice on how to proceed ramping in a new environment.
I essentially came to find out this manager was a jackass piece of shit liar who would say and do anything to get you to do what he wants. 3 weeks later I didnt get a macbook, or anything I really said I needed to succeed, which I was like alright sick.
I should of just kept interviewing, the guy I started with quit the first day to take another offer. Should of kept my other interviews running too.
You ever worked somewhere just toxic? well yeah, this was it.
Anyways get this, the week of my finals with this other company, a whole 2 months of slacking later, I get fired, and essentially it turned out good, I got to take a week off work before starting my next role, a much needed few days off to cleanse from the bad habits of slacking off, and killer severance.
l end up getting the position I want but get this, the guy who I was supposed to work under? the dude who had the say-so? He got fired right after he interviewed me, what a coincidence, But the dude that fired him, liked me SO. God help me...
At this point I'm like fuck it, I gotta eat, and now I can use my new Macbook Pro as a coaster.
Conclusion:
If you're an SDR at a shit spot, don't do what I did. Interview your prospective new companies better when jumping ship, ask about things that are important to you and if they have them for you,
this guy was like 'I'll get you anything you need' &' I'll fight for you' & 'I've never lost an SDR' & 'you're a great fit & trust me I wouldn't just say that' but didn't deliver, just hot air. (i now have will never trust a manager again thanks)
If you want it and it's important, discuss it in the interview, make sure it's expected and non-negotiable. At the time I only gave a shit about a high-ass base salary so I could qualify for a home but that's way less important than you being an ACTUAL good fit. IE do they have the right tech stack, tools, product, people, & structure in place that you desire.
I would of rather spent those 2 months at my new company, building experience, and booking enormous meetings, getting my stripes, not being stressed out by a toxic ex-type manager.
P.S.
Anyways that's that, I'm still sad as shit, hopefully, it passes, at least I have a great job and computer now.
